Portraits Of Iconic Musicians Made From Their Own CDs
Two artists have created a unique collection of celebrity portraits including a tribute of Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury.
Created by Mirco Pagano, 29, and Moreno De Turco, 25, the series presents portraits of easily the seven most recognisable and iconic musicians of all time - Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Michael Jackson, James Brown, Freddie Mercury and Elvis.
Not only are the portraits made from more than 6,500 colourful CDs but their very own albums.
The Italian artists have displayed the CDs as if they are spilling out of backpacks, discarded shopping bags, filing cabinets and drawers; as if the musicians - all of them deceased - couldn't be held back for all their musical passion and have exploded into reality again.
However, the real reason behind the portraits is not to pay tribute to the musician's chart-topping success but to highlight piracy in the music industry.
Mirco and Moreno have been working alongside American advertising agency TBWA to emphasis the negative effect it has on the music industry through exhibitions of their artwork.
Pagano said: "Piracy infects and destroys music, preventing the artists to succeed and become idols as in the past. Their recognition is at risk, only the original CDs allow us to understand who they are and make them universally recognisable icons. A portrait made of pirate CDs would create a non-artist.
"Subjects of these portraits are the icons of the music world, recreated using the original CDs of their greatest hits."

Very Striking: Celebrity Matchbook Art
Talk about a striking gallery - an artist uses matchbooks as his canvas.
Mike Bell creates amazing portraits of iconic celebrities on the small packs, and then manipulates the matches to form hand poses.
His sparky work includes John Lennon making a victory sign, Marilyn Monroe with diamonds on her fingers and Jack Sparrow with mini cutlasses.
There are also sulphur versions of Elton John with his piano, Jack Nicholson in The Shining and Robert De Niro as Taxi Driver's Travis Bickle giving us the middle finger.
Mike, from New Jersey, explains: "I wanted to create art on an common object that people discarded. I pondered this as I drank a beer in my local pub.

A Slice of Musical History: Album Covers Created From Pizza
A restaurant is offering a slice of musical history with pizzas featuring the covers of iconic albums.
PizzaExpress have created limited edition pizzas replicating some of the most memorable album covers of past and present artists - including Rihanna's Loud, Madonna's True Blue, Grace by Jeff Buckley, Bob Marley Legend and Jimi Hendrix's Kiss The Sky.
The likenesses of the famous singers have been fashioned from a variety of fresh toppings and herbs.
Created to celebrate the chain's search for great musical talent via "The Big Audition", they are available for one day only from the Dean Street branch on 30th August.
The Big Audition with Jamie Cullum invites singers and musicians, soloists and bands, of any music style, to showcase their talent in this unique "open to all" competition. Cullum himself was first discovered at the PizzaExpress Jazz Club.
The winner of the competition will receive GBP 5,000 from Barclaycard Freedom to kick start their music career.
Ross Dines, Music Manager at PizzaExpress said; "Live music has been at the heart of PizzaExpress for over 40 years and we felt that celebrating iconic albums in this unique way was the perfect way to celebrate our search for new music talent.

Reel-y good tape art
REEL-Y GOOD TAPE ART
A music fan has found a reel-y good use for old cassette tapes - she uses them to create portraits of music legends.
Erika Simmons has made amazing pictures of Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison from unspooled reels.
The 25-year-old has also crafted uncanny images of indie star Ian Brown and Joy Division singer Ian Curtis.
Atlanta-based artist Erika says: "The idea to use the cassettes struck me by luck. About a year ago I couldn't afford a CD player and was browsing the library bookstore and found some "I Claudius" cassettes for sale.
"I purchased them with the intent to listen to them, but out of laziness I put the tapes on the floor on a blank canvas and then lightning struck.
"The portraits are carefully fashioned and take anywhere from a few days to two weeks to complete.
"For the most intricate ones I twist the tape to give the illusion of a thin line. I try to make it look like the image has burst from the cassette, intact.
People have been so impressed by the tape art that Erika is now taking commissions to create music fan's favourite rock stars.
Unfortunately Erika has no plans yet to make a portrait of TAPE That.
