PICTURE SHOWS: Rosie the fox coming out of her underground earth (den) to meet her friend Maddy the terrier. In the snow, near Corwen, north Wales.

These charming pictures show furry best friends Rosie the fox and Maddy the terrier playing together in the snow.

The real-life fox and hound pair have been pals since Rosie, 6, was hand-reared by photographer Richard Bowler.

The pair live in a large outdoor enclosure on the edge of woodland at Richard's small holding in the Berwyn mountains, north Wales.

Richard explains: "The two have been best mates since I took Rosie in as an abandoned cub and play together every day. Both love the snow and love snowball fights. We just throw the snowballs in the air for them to catch. It was very powdery snow today so they just exploded when they caught them. I was hoping for some more interactive shots of them both playing together but they just wouldn't do as they were told. Both are now sound asleep, knackered after a hectic hour or so of playing."

Rosie was just a cub when she was left abandoned after her father killed most of her litter before the cubs had opened their eyes for the first time.

After being adopted by Richard, she soon formed a firm friendship with terrier Maddy, a Lakeland Patterdale cross, who is now nine.

This hilarious sequences of images shows the unbelievable interaction between fox and hound pals.

Rosie the fox is seen trying to snatch a twig from Maddy the Lakeland Patterdale's mouth.

However, Maddy knows how to deal with sly foxes - a raised paw is the perfect method to block a stick snatcher.

Photographer Richard Bowler captured the heart-warming action at his picturesque small-holding near Corwen, North Wales.

The two have become friends after Rosie was left abandoned when her dad killed most of her litter.

Richard, 45, gave the fox, now 18 months, a home at his picturesque small-holding in the Berwyn mountains and she quickly bonded with playful five-year-old Maddy.

Out-Foxed: Rosie the Fox Really Wants Doggy Friend Maddy's Rock
It's not often you will see a hound chased by a fox but that doesn't stop this cute cub leaping after her doggy pal.

These hilarious pictures show the incredible bond formed between Maddy the dog and abandoned fox cub Rosie.

Photographer Richard Bowler captured the heart-warming action at his home near Corwen, North Wales.

They show six-month-old Rosie leaping after Maddy in an attempt to deprive the Lakeland Patterdale cross of one of her much-cherished rocks.

But Maddy, 4, often out-foxes her pal, even when Rosie tries a surprise flying jump attack from the bushes.

The two have become friends after Rosie was left abandoned when her dad killed most of her litter.

Richard, 44, gave the fox a home at his picturesque small-holding in the Berwyn mountains.

He explains: "It is not known what happened to Rosie's mother. All we know is that she was the only survivor after her dad went rogue. She had to be hand-reared before she had even opened her eyes.

"We decided to give Rosie a home and she quickly bonded with Maddy after they were gently introduced.

"Maddy has always been a playful pet and it is a natural instinct for a fox cub to play so it is no surprise they share the same instinct for fun.

"Maddy's most favourite thing in the world is to chase after stones; she does have toys but prefers stones for some reason. Rosie, although not interested in chasing after a stone, loves to steal anything she can from Maddy.

"She waits until Maddy has the stone in her mouth then jumps all over her trying to steal it. There's nothing nasty about it, it's just the game they have developed. Often Maddy will turn around and chase her, which Rosie loves.

"Since Rosie has grown we have built a large enclosure for them both to run around in, it's full...

It could be a scene from Disney classic The Fox and the Hound.

But these furry characters have become real-life friends after Rosie the fox cub was left abandoned when her dad killed most of her litter.

The 15-week-old fox has now bonded with new pal Maddy at the home of Richard Bowler in the Berwyn mountains near Corwen, North Wales.

These heart-warming pictures show them enjoying playing together at the five-acre small-holding where Rosie is being trained.

Richard, 44, was formerly in the building industry but last year moved from Bedfordshire with girlfriend Helen, 41, for a change of lifestyle. They now run a holiday let in Blaenau Ffestiniog and Richard is developing a wildlife photography business.

"They have become best of friends, although we always supervise them playing together as Rosie is still quite small. They chase each other around and Rosie often dives on Maddy; the living room is usually a wreck after they have been playing."
