Armed Forces personnel paid tribute to Forces Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn at her funeral today, with street lining and a flypast by Second World War aircraft.
Personnel from all three services formed a bearer party to carry Dame Vera’s coffin into the funeral service. A Royal Marines bugler performed The Last Post and the Reveille during the ceremony.
Dame Vera enjoyed a special connection with the Armed Forces, and her family requested that military personnel take part in the ceremonies at her funeral today.
Sailors from HMS Collingwood, soldiers from No.7 Company, 1st Battalion The Coldstream Guards, and airmen from the Queen’s Colour Squadron of the RAF Regiment lined the route of the funeral cortège in Ditchling this afternoon.
Two aircraft from the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight performed a flypast over Ditchling before returning to RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

ARMED FORCES PAY TRIBUTE TO FORCES SWEETHEART WITH FLYPAST AT THE FUNERAL OF DAME VERA LYNN
Armed Forces personnel paid tribute to Forces Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn at her funeral today, with street lining and a flypast by Second World War aircraft.
Personnel from all three services formed a bearer party to carry Dame Vera’s coffin into the funeral service. A Royal Marines bugler performed The Last Post and the Reveille during the ceremony.
Dame Vera enjoyed a special connection with the Armed Forces, and her family requested that military personnel take part in the ceremonies at her funeral today.

Imagery from the RAF100 parade and flypast over London on Tuesday 10th July 2018. The event marked a celebration of the Royal Air Forceís centenary year. Thousands of people gathered along the Mall and around Buckingham Palace to witness approximately 100 aircraft take part in the flypast. One hundred days after the RAFís official 100th birthday on 1 April, the RAF will mark 100 years of operations today with a series of spectacular events in London.
Over 1,000 RAF servicemen and women will perform a ceremonial parade, along with almost 300 personnel lining the route representing the diverse roles played within the RAF through the generations. There will also be a spectacular flypast of up to 100 aircraft over Buckingham Palace at 1:00pm representing the RAFís history, its continued operational role in securing the UKís skies, and the future of air power.
Parade and Flypast
The parade will be commanded by Group Captain Anne-Marie Houghton, a Sentry navigator from Headquarters Air Command. Group Captain Houghton has the distinction of being the first female navigator in the Royal Air Force after she graduated from training in 1991.
As part of the event, fifty-five Squadron Standards will be paraded including that of 617 Squadron, famous for its role in the ëDambustersí raids which was recently reformed in 2018 to fly the UKís new F-35b Lightning II fighter jets. Her Majesty the Queen will also present a new Queen's Colour to the Royal Air Force at a consecration ceremony. The original Colour was presented in 1951.
