View from the Buachaille Etive Beag in early spring. The Bidean Nam Bian (aka the Three Sisters) can be seen on the right while och Etive can be seen in the distance. I got caught in some heavy hail storms while walking on the ridge, which, as I was the only person on the mountain, made me slightly uncomfortamble from time to time.

A photographer has released a stunning series of photos that show the raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands.
Scotland-based photographer Camillo Berenos has spent the past few years travelling though the highlands, capturing breath-taking pictures along the way.
Camillo said: "Unlike many who undertake such projects, I haven't focused on a single defined geographical area, though the majority of my photographic forays have taken me to the Western and North-Western Highlands.
"From the vast but also familiar landscapes of Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe, to the relentlessly steep slopes of the hills in Kintail and the rugged and shapely mountain massifs of Torridon and Wester Ross, I have spent many hours in the hills, with specific destinations often primarily being determined by where the weather forecast looked most favourable."

This is just another take of the classic view over Sgurr Fiona and the impressive ridge of An Teallach (Dundonell, NW Scotland) taken at sunset on a wild camping trip at the end of auutumn. Unfortunately the cloud cover prevented an explosion of colours at sunset, but visibility remained decent, so no complaining from me. I would have loved to get lower to emphasize the sandstone rocks a little more, but this would have concealed Loch Toll an Lochain.

I really loved how the white lichen covered stones contrasted with soft green grassy tussocks, and tough it would a nice foreground with Cul Beag as backdrop. The steep westerly cliffs of Creag nan Calman can be seen on the left. Unfortunately the sun would rise behind Creag nan Calman, and the best compositions were found around this spot, behind the cliffs.

Spectacularly shaped mountains form a stunning backdrop behind Sail Mhor and Lochan Coire Mhic Fhearchair on the right of it. The haze, which was present all day, added to the atmosphere during the post-sunset blue hour, creating soft light rendering the distant mountains in a subtly layered way.

Model Train Crosses Canada In Amazing Photography Project
A stunning photography project showing a train crossing Canada is made even more amazing by the fact the train is just two inches tall.
Jeff Friesen's work captures the travels of a GBP 950 scale model vintage 1955 streamliner passenger train against picturesque landscapes.
Entitled The Canadian: Ghost Train Crossing Canada, the series evolved from Jeff's wish to show off his native country.
He explains: "I started The Canadian project to show Canada from an unexpected vantage point.
"The journey has a surprise twist: I carry the train rather than it carrying me. At just two inches (5 cm) tall, it fits into a shopping bag.
"While it is tempting to document such a huge country from a helicopter or plane (in fact, it has been done several times) I wanted to get closer to the heart of the land. Two inches off the ground seemed about right.
"The model train provides a vehicle for the journey's visual narrative, linking far places with a ribbon of tiny steel rails. The train has its own resonance: a ghost from the past, it is an exact scaled-down replica of the 1955 Streamliner that was first named "The Canadian," which travelled the route between Montreal and Vancouver.
"There is some peril in introducing a model train to the full scale world. In Nova Scotia the train fell into a fast moving stream and was quickly carried to the Atlantic shore. In Ontario's Algonquin Park the train fell off a log into a marsh of thick mud and dark water. I had to feel for the train in the bog's murky depths...the train wasn't the only thing down there. In Ottawa I was setting up the train behind the Parliament Buildings and w...

[Brave Scott Cunningham has walked his way into the history books by becoming the first blind man to scale Ben Nevis. Scott, 40, who took seven hours to complete the trek up and down the UK's highest mountain with his trusty guide dog Travis, said yesterday (Wed 29 June 2011) that it was a "fantastic" experience. The epic Ben Nevis trek was also a swansong for nine-year-old Travis, who is retiring this year from his duties as a guide dog. Scott, of Larkhill, South Lanarkshire, and Travis started their hike up the mountain at 10am on Saturday with 120 other people who were also raising money for Guide Dogs and the Royal Marine's Charitable Trust. Castle Urquhart and Loch Ness, Highland, Scotland. Probably built i the 13th century, Castle Urquhart was one of the largest fortifications in medieval Scotland. It was largely destroyed in 1692 to prevent it from being used as a stronghold by the Jacobites. Today the ruins are owned by the National Trust for Scotland.

MAYAN MYSTICISM IN CHIAPAS
Visitors to the Mexican state of Chiapas are guaranteed a trip drenched in Mayan mysticism, as well as unfettered access to lovely hotels, colonial towns and indigenous cultures.
The Pacific Coast state also benefits from an abundance of lush green fields, forests and jungles, fresh air, unique flora and fauna and rare species.
Many ethnic groups live in Chiapas and each has kept their traditions, languages and folklore alive. Their economy is based on cultivation - corn, beans, squash, potatoes, vegetables, pears, tomatoes and other plants - and raising animals such as pigs and poultry. And the colourful costumes of each group are just as varied as the countryside that surrounds them.
Due to this ethnic tradition Chiapas is also famous for its handcrafts. The Tojolabals make various articles in wood and clay; the Lacandons produce reed flutes, hammocks, nets, leather bags, polished and decorated gourds, clay dolls and necklaces of seeds; while the Zoques are masters at weaving baskets and making toys.
Surrounded by dozens of traditional Tzotzil and Tzeltal villages, the city of San Cristobal de Las Casas is at the heart of one of the most deeply rooted indigenous areas in Mexico. Set in a gorgeous highland valley, the colonial city has been a popular travelers' destination for decades. This makes it both an excellent base for local and regional exploration and a place where ancient customs coexist with modern luxuries. Many people who visit Chiapas stay in the town and use it as a base-camp to explore the surrounding area.
However, San Cristobal is an interesting city in its own right, with a rich history. It's a pleasure to explore the city...
