'It was refreshing to see what Sherwood did': how the BBC's acclaimed miners' strike drama went down in the real pit villages
In the Nottingham streets where the serial is set, the struggle now is to control the narrative of a fiercely contested history.
James Graham's unmissable BBC series Sherwood, which dramatises the village's history over the past four decades.
Apart from the trauma of the murder that was the primary inspiration for the fiction of Sherwood - Keith ÒFroggyÓ Frogson, former trade unionist, was killed with a crossbow and samurai sword a couple of streets away from the grocery shop in 2004 - there was also all the buried hurt and anger of the 1984 miners' strike, which divided Nottinghamshire's neighbours and families, the long-ago war that some still want to fight.
The BBC Drama 'Sherwood' focussed on the tensions during the 1984/85 Miners strike in the pit town of Annesley in Nottinghamshire. 103 NUM members of the workforce stayed out on strike creating tension between them and the remaining working miners.

Mother elephant and newborn baby go for a swim to beat the heat, Melbourne Zoo, Australia - 24 Jan 2013

Mum And Baby Elephant Go For A Splash
With Melbourne basking in a continued heatwave this baby elephant was more than happy to go for a swim.
The unnamed Asian Elephant calf was born at Melbourne Zoo last week (17 Jan).
With the 7-day-old proving that he is now steady on his feet, keepers felt it was time to refill the pool in the elephant enclosure.
And with the city experiencing temperatures of 35 degrees celcius the youngster - not to mention mum Num-Oi - were grateful to go for a paddle to cool off.
While Num-Oi had no trouble with the shallow water, her tiny in comparison son seemed to have a few problems - and one point losing his footing and suffering a full dunking.
The youngster's arrival into the world last week was something of a drawn out affair, with Num-Oi experiencing a 22-month pregnancy and being in labour for four days.
However, her 131kg bundle of joy was eventually born safely and was on his feet in minutes.
According to keepers first timer Num-Oi is proving to be a natural mum and is very attentive to her calf.
Though he hasn't been officially named the baby has been nicknamed "Dougie" after his favourite pastime of digging into the dirt at the elephant enclosure.

Go Go Hamsters toys - Dec 2009
A range of interactive hamsters has become one of the 'must-have' presents this Christmas.
Go Go Hamsters are described as "artificially intelligent hamsters that talk and move around their habitat".
But parents hoping to get their hands on the GBP 9.99 toy could be disappointed as retailers sell out of stock.
British distributor The Character Group has posted a notice on their website stating "no stock available until further notice" and the shelves of high street stores are also empty.
Private sellers are currently selling the furry toys online for double the retail price.
