8th April 2017. Woolwich Ferry workers are set to go on strike after an alleged four-year campaign of sexual harassment. Travellers face disruption tomorrow due to the dispute, which also involves claims of a "bullying culture". About 95 per cent of the workforce are set to walk out after a member of staff made a formal complaint of sexual harassment. The Standard has learned that in December Tara Brackley, a secretary for Briggs Marine Contractors, which runs the service on behalf of Transport for London, claimed a member of staff had sexually harassed her for years. She told the Standard the man would regularly make lewd comments towards her. She said: "He constantly told me he loved me, that I looked attractive, blowing kisses, sneakily squeezing my shoulders, rubbing and stroking my neck, eyeing me up and down sexually, whispering in my ear, telling me we should run away together, it made me feel very, very uncomfortable. He would not stop even when I asked him to". Pictured : Tara Brackley.

The world's largest egg has gone on sale for GBP 5,000. The 13in tall egg is currently on show at the Chelsea Antiques Fair before being auctioned off. The rare egg was laid by a Great Elephant Bird in Madagascar almost 400 years ago. These 10ft tall birds, which were wiped out by hunters in the mid-1600s, produced the biggest eggs of any creature, including dinosaurs. The egg is bigger than a rugby ball and around 300 times the size of a hen's egg; it measures more than 3ft round its circumference. The egg is being sold by its current owner, antique dealer John Shepherd, who bought it after seeing David Attenborough discover one while filming in Madagascar.

Turtles being slaughtered on the beach, Vizhinjam, Kerala, India - 2008
    THE PLIGHT OF INDIA'S TURTLES

The Indian woman meticulously cuts off the bottom half of the upturned turtle with her large knife, occasionally stopping to sharpen the blade on the stone floor.

The creature is still alive and flapping its fins wildly and helplessly.

To many Western-holidaymakers' eyes this may seem a gruesome sight - but this is way things are done in the fishing village of Vizhinjam in Kerala, South West India.

Men in the village traditionally go to sea in the fishing boats while the women buy their catches and are responsible for cutting up the catch and selling them on to restaurants.

However, turtles are listed as a threatened species and should not be caught and killed like regular fish; due to this there is no real market for turtle flesh.

Despite this, whether by accident or design, as these pictures show, turtle is still on the menu for many in Vizhinjam.

According to turtle campaigners part of the reason for the continued capture and killing of turtles is the lack of awareness of their status.

They say that if more effort was made to teach the fishermen about endangered status of the species then they could be relied upon to release the trapped ones back into the sea.
