Lightfoot, le scooter électrique à panneaux solaires assure une autonomie de 30 kms par jour
Picture MUST credit: Otherlab A new eco-friendly electric scooter keeps on the go —with both sides covered in solar panels . The team behind the Lightfoot say the panels t provide up to 30 km of extra range per day. And they assure potential buyers they do not get hot enough to burn the insides of the rider's legs. One of the panels can be opened to access a 1.5-cubic-foot lockable weatherproof storage space. The Lightfoot has a top speed of 32 km/h, can be ridden on roads and in bicycle lanes, and in the US does not require a license to operate. Battery life, current speed and other information is displayed on a waterproof LCD touchscreen. The machine was invented by Australian engineer Saul Griffith and is manufactured by San Francisco startup Otherlab, which he co-founded. Picture supplied by JLPPA

I know they're exciting – but calm down! Britain's love-hate affair with the e-scooter
There are more than 750,000 private e-scooters in the UK, most of them being used illegally. Why have they become so popular - and so disliked?
There are legal ways to experience the e-scooter thrill. Since 2020, rental e-scooter trials have been operational in many parts of the UK, run by companies including Lime, Spin, Dott, Tier and Voi, in partnership with local authorities. These devices are capped at a maximum speed of 15.5mph, and users must have a full or provisional driving licence. Helmet-wearing is strongly advised, although not mandatory. The Department for Transport is monitoring these trials, which have been extended to later this year, and will use the data collected to determine whether e-scooters should be legalised.

London Bridge this morning
London Bridge this morning. The UK is likely to be hotter than the Bahamas later this week as a heatwave sweeps the country, the Met Office has said. The forecaster has issued a level three heat warning from Thursday morning as it expects hot air to move in from southern Europe, leading to a sudden increase in temperatures. Britain is expected to pass the threshold for a heatwave, which requires three consecutive days of temperatures over 25C across most of the country, and 28C in London.

Londoners going back to work at Vauxhall today. Millions are returning to work today as the Government begins to ease coronavirus lockdown measures, with people in England allowed to spend more time outside , meet a friend at the park and view a potential new home. As changes in the guidelines came into force from Wednesday morning, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps urged people not to Òflood backÓ onto public transport amid fears that reduced services will be overcrowded and overwhelmed.
