Summer Solstice is celebrated at Stonehenge, Wiltshire, Britain - 21 Jun 2011
Thousands of Summer Solstice revellers gathered at the ancient Wiltshire stone circle of Stonehenge early this morning to watch dawn break on the longest day of the year. The solstice attracts a very eclectic mix - Druids, hippies, sun worshippers and those who are curious to experience the ancient festival all make the journey to the stones at the one time of the year when full access is granted.

    New Year revellers
New Years Eve celebrations, Cardiff, Britain - 31 Dec 2007
Freezing temperatures or, indeed, dignity didn't stop New Years Eve revellers causing drunken scenes on the streets of Britain again this year. Britain's culture of 'binge-drinking' was fully on display in the Welsh capital of Cardiff as party-goers literally let it all hang out. Despite chilly December weather one group of young women were spotted wearing just their knickers - with what appeared to be only scarves covering their chests. But while these girls may have been dressed for fun, ambulance services around the country found themselves stretched to the limit as people took celebrations too far. Drink-related illness and alcohol-fuelled violence once again marred the celebrations on what is the busiest night of the year for the emergency services.
