Best of UK Defence Imagery 2021.
A formation flight of specially painted Chinook and Puma helicopter took place on 25th November 2021, to mark over 90 years of combined service.
The occasion saw the aircraft take a commemorative flight over several locations in the South of England displaying their bespoke anniversary tail art.
The two uniquely painted airframes celebrated their individual anniversaries earlier this year, but this is their first formation flight as a pair.
The Puma (XW224), from RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, has completed 50 years of service, while the Chinook (ZD984), from RAF Odiham, Hampshire, has completed 40 years of service.
Each aircraftís tail art was especially commissioned to commemorate
the significant anniversaries of their entry into service with the Royal Air Force.
The flightpath included several iconic sites, stretching from the Isle of Wight to central London; with each location offering unique joint training opportunities for the crews who will often work together on operations.

Army Air Corps AH64 Apache conducts dust landings while deployed to RAFO Musannah as part of Ex PINION OMAN 21.
Force elements from across the 1st Aviation Brigade Combat Team (1AvnBCT) recently deployed on Exercise PINION OMAN 21 (ExPO21) to conduct essential desert environmental training and live firing prior to supporting 1 (UK) Division on Exercise KHANJAR OMAN 21. The training and qualifications also ensure lead elements of 1AvnBCT who are held are Extremely High Readiness are equipped to react to a multitude of potential threats, able to deploy globally as well as support standing operational commitments in the homeland.
In order to support the deployment, maintain serviceability and readiness of the aircraft, personnel from the Army Air Corps, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Royal Logistics Corps, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy work day and night in challenging conditions to conduct vital maintenance, repair, refuel and support. These personnel are the vital enablers which assure that each aircraft is maintained to the highest standard and set the conditions for the aircrew to continuingly fly in some of the harshest conditions in the world.© UK MOD Crown copyright / eyevine

Image of NHS Staff checking their mobile phones, whilst being flown onboard an RAF Chinook helicopter, tasked with transporting them to locations around the UK.
As part of the Aviation Task Force Covid Support Force, a Chinook helicopter from RAF Odiham was deployed in support of the NHS assurance of Harrogate, Bristol and Sunderland Nightingale Hospitals. The Clinical Panel Assurance visits will enable the Nightingale hospitals to open on the desired dates, providing additional support to NHS Trusts in the fight against Coronavirus.

Exercise Decisive Manoeuvre, RAF Chinooks and Puma from Joint Helicopter Command came together to complete the largest movement of Artillery in recent history. A combination of 7 aircraft from both RAF Odiham and RAF Benson, along with Joint Helicopter Support Squadron organised the movement of 105mm Light Guns in support of 16 Air Assault Brigade conducting a raid on Salisbury plain during their 3-week Gunnery confirmation exercise.

RAF 2020 photo competition.
Description: Exercise Decisive Manoeuvre, RAF Chinooks and Puma from Joint Helicopter Command came together to complete the largest movement of Artillery in recent history. A combination of 7 aircraft from both RAF Odiham and RAF Benson, along with Joint Helicopter Support Squadron organised the movement of 105mm Light Guns in support of 16 Air Assault Brigade conducting a raid on Salisbury plain during their 3-week Gunnery confirmation exercise.
This image was entered into category B 'RAF Equipment' of the RAF Photographic Competition 2020, being awarded 2nd place by the judges.
