Fortress Zaporizhzhia prepares to fight as war closes in
Trenches are dug and teachers receive gun training in last large city in south-east under Ukrainian control.
Outside Zaporizhzhia there are several lines of deep trenches, ringed by sandbags, armed men, and more sandbags and armed men.
A series of war-related training courses being offered to the city’s teachers and journalists. Attenders, who are then expected to train the wider community, were taught how to load a gun, administer first aid and do a basic medical evaluation.

'We weren't prepared for this': Kyiv area morgues at breaking point
Morgue staff are struggling to keep up with the number of casualties, with bodies piled in refrigerated trucks.
The first body arrived in late February, a few days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began. The next day, two more. By the beginning of March, the morgue, on the outskirts of Kyiv, had no more space for the dead who, every day, arrived by the dozen from the cities of Bucha and Borodyanka – at the time occupied by the Russian forces.
When Moscow's withdrawal from the areas north of the capital early in April unveiled the brutality of mass graves, with hundreds of civilian corpses buried in residential districts, every morgue in the Kyiv region was already at breaking point.

Dozens of Bucha civilians were killed by metal darts from Russian artillery.
Experts from the forensic department of France's national gendarmerie and Ukrainian doctors carrying bodies of civilians killed in Bucha.
Pathologists and coroners who are carrying out postmortems on bodies found in mass graves in the region north of Kyiv, where occupying Russian forces have been accused of atrocities, said they had found small metal darts, called flechettes, embedded in peopleÕs heads and chests.
Independent weapons experts who reviewed pictures of the metal arrows found in the bodies, seen by the Guardian, confirmed that they were flechettes, an anti-personnel weapon widely used during the first world war.
These small metal darts are contained in tank or field gun shells. Each shell can contain up to 8,000 flechettes. Once fired, shells burst when a timed fuse detonates and explodes above the ground.
