The Princess, who was guest of honour at the festival, made a special 373 mile train trip from Edinburgh to London to attend the Festival.
    Taking part in the parade were 500 musicians, 200 International folk dancers, and dozens of novelty vehicles. 26 London stores have entries among the 50 floats. The seven day campaign from 26 May to 7 June, is to prove to foreign buyers that London is the shopping centre of the world.

The Royal deckhands spent most of the day holding fenders in place as Bloodhound negotiated the locks.
    The Royal children, with their father, and Crown Prince Carl Gutav of Sweden, are on a sailing holiday up the Scottish west coast. The yacht's four and a half hour journey through the canal was watched by a large crowd, and then Bloodhound sailed out into the Sound of Jura, her destination unknown.
