American declared hot dog-eating champ at annual Nathan's competition
Californian Joey Chestnut set a world record by eating 66 hot dogs and beating six-time Nathan's hot dog-eating champ Takeru Kobayashi at the annual Coney Island contest. Chestnut's victory over Kobayashi ended the Japanese man's six-year reign following the extraction of a wisdom tooth and complaints of jaw pain in the run-up to the July 4th competition. A near mint copy of an ultra rare Superman comic book is being backed to become the world’s most expensive at over $6 million USD,

It is a first edition of the Man of Steel’s own title, Superman, published byDC Comics found in a mother’s pre-war comic book collection and rated 9.0 out 10 by official graders,

In 1922, a copy rated initially at 8.0 that sold for $5.3 million USD in a private sale making it the second most valuable comic book ever sold.

The following year it was upgraded to 8.5, rendering it even more valuable.

The new find is set to overhaul the current world record holder, a copy of Action Comics No. 1 which first introduced Superman to the world in 1939.

It sold for $6 million in 2024.

The new find was discovered by three brothers in California while taking stock of their late mother’s belongings in their family home in San Francisco.

They discovered a cache of old comic books, tucked away in an attic beneath layers of faded newspapers and cobwebs.

The comic is being sold by US saleroom Heritage Auctions at a special comic books auction between November 20 and 22 this year.

Is the F-word offensive in Queensland? The tiny record shop that faced down a culture war in court - and won.

Brisbane's Rocking Horse Records turns 50 this year - but it should also be celebrated for its role in facing down a 'nonsense' culture war that began with undercover cops and the Dead Kennedys.

Celebrating the store's 50th birthday, Warwick Vere has owned Brisbane's Rocking Horse Records since its inception. Celebrating 50 years in 2025, there is history on the walls of Brisbane's Rocking Horse Records: a 'coat of arms' contains the the Dead Kennedys' In God We Trust record, signed by band member Jello Biafra after it was torn on camera by Reverend John Pasterkamp.

Le N°1 du comic book "Fantastic Four" s'est vendu aux enchères pour un peu plus de 2 millions de dollars
Pictures must credit: Heritage Auctions A near mint condition copy of the first ever Fantastic Four superhero comic book has sold for more than $2 million USD. The publication detailed the adventures of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm — astronauts who gain extraordinary powers like invisibility and stretchability after being hit by cosmic radiation. The previous auction record for a Fantastic Four No. 1 was $1.5 million USD sold in 2022. The new record set was $2.04 million USD / €1.83 million euros. The copy sold by Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas, USA is one of only two known copies of 1961’s Fantastic Four No. 1 awarded a Near Mint+ 9.6 grade. Collectors responded appropriately, as this issue opened live bidding at $1.05. Heritage vice president Barry Sandoval said: “The state of preservation of this copy is simply unbelievable. “It’s one of the greatest single comic books we have ever handled, and the final auction price reflected that.” It was sold as part of a Comics & Comic Art Signature Auction that realised $19,666,768 USD /€14.962.590 euros with nearly 6,000 bidders participating worldwide. A new Fantastic Four movie reboot starring Mandalorian and Game of Thrones TV actor Pedro Pascal and The Crown actress Vanessa Kirby is currently in production. Picture supplied by JLPPA

  • Bed and breakbeat: guests go crate-digging at UK's only 'vinyl hotel'

Bed and breakbeat: guests go crate-digging at UK's only 'vinyl hotel'
Vinyl Pimp, in Hackney, east London, offers free night in warehouse to a guest spending £250 or more on records.

Vinyl Pimp: The only record store in the world where you can stay the night.
We had the pleasure of visiting this hidden gem in the heart of Hackney. Vinyl Pimp holds an archive of 27,000 (and counting) records, including rare treasures from every genre, with a particular focus on DJ-friendly sounds.
Within the warehouse, there's a 'vinyl hotel' room decked out with a bed, sofas and Technics turntable where you can stay the night, with full access to the whole vinyl collection for all-night-long digging. It’s the first of its kind in the world.
If you stay, you'll share the main warehouse space - equipped with a kitchen, living space and full DJ booth - with Vinyl Pimp founder and vinyl connoisseur Luk Man Hon. The room is free to book, with a requirement to spend £250+ on records during your stay.
