Tariku has his hair cut by Gebrazgi, a local student from Mek?ele University. Unable to cut their own hair, it is a special day when Gebrazgi plugs in his clippers. The boys sit around the chair, in a shaded patch behind the dormitories, discussing football scores whilst waiting for their haircut. Gebrazgi, whose salary is paid for by the charity, devotes his spare time to the upkeep of the campus and running a makeshift barbershop

These lion cubs looked certain to die when their mother seemed critically injured.

First spotted at one-day-old, and without anyone to feed and protect them, the three youngsters appeared doomed.

However, these stunning pictures show the remarkable recovery of their mother a few weeks later - and heart-melting scenes of family bonding.

Wildlife photographer and Exodus tour guide Paul Goldstein first found the cubs on Kenya's Masai Mara in December before they had even opened their eyes for the first time.

Heading a photo safari from the local Kicheche Camp, Paul decided to follow their progress over the course of a week.

The Wimbledon-based Exodus guide explains: "To find new born cubs is something remarkable and extremely rare. But whether they are lion, leopard or cheetah, their early lives are fraught with huge danger and a large proportion do not survive. I saw these three infants at just a day old and studied them over a week as their eyes opened. Unfortunately as the image shows their mother was desperately injured and could barely walk.

"In a situation like this priority number one is for her to feed, as without sustenance the cubs will not be able to suckle and will perish. I spoke with a sympathetic Masai Mara warden an...

Three dogs cross the line at exactly the same moment
Amazing triple greyhound dead heat at at Romford Greyhound Stadium, Essex, Britain - 19 Jan 2011
Three greyhounds have made history by winning a race in a triple dead heat at odds of many millions to one. Viewers watching the 8.50pm greyhound race at Romford Stadium in London were stunned when all three dogs finished at exactly the same time. The track's photo finish technology was unable to split the greyhounds in the unprecedented triple dead heat. The three dogs were contesting the Coralcasino.com stakes over a marathon distance of 925 metres - the furthest that greyhounds can race over - making the feat even more incredible. A spokesman for bookmaker's Coral, said the odds of it happening were many millions to one. The three dogs were in Trap 1, Killishan Masai at odds of 4-1; Trap 5, Ayamzagirl at odds of 4-1 and Trap 2, Droopys Djokovic, at odds of 12-1

Wandering albatross (Diomedea exulans) on the wing at sunset approaching South Georgia Island, Southern Atlantic Ocean. The Wandering Albatross has the largest wingspan of any living bird, with the average wingspan being 3.1 metres (10.2 ft). The longest-winged examples verified have been about 3.7 m (12 ft), but probably erroneous reports of as much as 5.3 m (17.5 ft) are known. As a result of its wingspan, it is capable of remaining in the air without beating its wings for several hours at a time (travelling 22 metres for every meter of drop). The length of the body is about 1.35 m (4.4 ft) with females being slightly smaller than males, and they weigh typically from 6 to 12 kg (13-26 lb). Immature birds have been recorded weighing as much as 16.1 kg (35 lb) during their first flights. The plumage varies with age, but adults have white bodies with black and white wings. Males have whiter wings than females with just the tips and trailing edges of the wings black. They feed on squid, small fish and on animal refuse that floats on the sea, eating to such excess at times that they are unable to fly and rest helplessly on the water.
