    The ancient Mediterranean city is at risk as sea levels rise. But most people in the vulnerable fishing village of El Max believe it will always weather the storms of time.

    Alexandria is one of the world's sinking cities, along with Venice, Miami, Lagos, Jakarta and others. An IPCC report predicts that with global sea levels rising at the current rate, and without adequate preventive measures, thousands of kilometres of the Nile delta could be fully submerged by 2100.

    A Mixed Migration Centre study that interviewed 100 residents of the suburb found that 90% of them had no plans to leave the area and only a handful believed that the rising water was even a threat.

    Why have salmon deserted Norway's rivers - and will they ever return?
    North Atlantic populations are at a historic low, and this year 33 of the country's rivers were closed during the fishing season as salmon farming and the climate crisis threaten the fish's future.

    This spring the salmon, particularly the medium and larger-sized fish, did not come back from the ocean, raising such alarm over the collapse of the salmon population that the river, along with dozens of others in central and southern Norway, was abruptly closed for the first time.

    Visitors cancelled their plans and stayed away.

    Ann-Britt Bogen believes the promotion of catch and release for anglers and changes to fish farming rules are needed.

There is a high street, a harbour, a library, a community centre, a SuperValu supermarket, cafes, pubs, sports pitches. Residents walk their dogs, play bingo, sit on benches. Yet amid the ordinariness there is, apparently, an answer to a riddle pondered by Aristotle, Kant and Hegel: the good life? It’s right here. Or at least the good enough life.

    That is the title of a new book by the English anthropologist Daniel Miller, who spent 16 months in Skerries studying daily life and came to a startling conclusion: "It is hard to find another currently existing society that is demonstrably better."
