SOUTHAMPTON HAS FIRST FREE GRAPE AUCTION SINCE THE WAR .
Thirteen thousand barrels (half a million pounds) of grapes were offered for sale at Southampton today in the first free auction of grapes to take place there since the war. The consignment was from Almeria, Spain, where fine desert grapes are grown. The sale - open to members of the wholesale free trade and not to the general public - is expected to bring grapes into the shops at 1s to 1s 6d a pound.
