Double Oscar winner Emma Stone has revealed she is just as happy being called Emily — because that’s her real name.
The La La Land and Poor Things actress, 35, made her admission on US news programme Today where she turned up in a burgundy red patent leather dress.
She later wore the same outfit when she appeared the same day on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Stone was doing promotion for her latest movie Kinds of Kindness.
Today host Craig Melvin asked her: “Are we still going by Emma, or Emily?
"There's been some confusion over your name."
She replied: “”I'm fine either way, I really am. My real name is Emily, though."
Melvin then said: ”Why have you been allowing us to call you Emma for all these years?”
She explained it was to do when she first registered as an actress with the profession’s union, the Screen Actors Guild.
There was already someone with the name Emily Stone.
She revealed: "It's sort of like when you register a business and you can't have the same name as someone else.
"I've been saying Emily my whole life . You can call me whatever you want,”
"You can make up a name!”
Later she appeared with Jimmy Fallon wearing the same dress and recalled how she made the host a bracelet while housebound during the covid pandemic.
