A kitchen top cooker that looks like a washing machine drum is promising restaurant-standard food — using artificial intelligence.
The Agari AI is said to combine multiple cooking methods.
It uses dual 3D cameras to recognise the food placed inside.
A touch screen lets the user confirm it and then is presented with options on how the food should be cooked.
For instance a joint of beef has options ranging from rarer to well done.
The selection is made and then the prep inside happens automatically.
It executes a two-stage cooking process said to mimic what high-end restaurants do.
It pressure-cooks at precise temperatures which are around 84°C for vegetables and between 50C and 65°C then when ready transitions to a 285°C sear that delivers a perfect crust in under a minute.
The Canadian-designed Agari has a food-grade stainless steel cooking chamber.
Wi-Fi connectivity enables app integration and firmware updates, keeping the device current as the AI algorithms improve.
Agari is currently available through Kickstarter with early bird pricing starting around $699 USD / €595 euros for backers.

The Mini Palace Of Versailles In South London
From the outside it looks like an unassuming apartment in a converted Victorian building in South London.

However, step through jewellery designer Caroline Haelterman's front door and you are confronted with a mini Palace of Versailles.

For inside the apartment is a masterpiece in baroque design complete with vaulted ceiling and antique fireplace.

The heart of the home is the living room with a breathtaking triple-height vaulted ceiling and vast chandelier.

It is overlooked by a mezzanine level - lined by an intricately carved wooden balustrade - which Caroline had installed to house a guest bedroom and bathroom.

This level is accessed via a wooden staircase that was once part of a gypsy caravan.

The opulent master bedroom boasts a four-poster bed, a separate dressing room and a mirrored bathroom.

Inspired by her passion for 17th Century art and design, Caroline has added a wealth of other details, including trompe l'oeil brickwork on plastered walls and antique wooden doorframes.

However, while her home looks likes something from the 17th century it does still boast all the modern conveniences you would expect.

The only difference is that they are all carefully camouflaged; for example, the oven resides inside a marble table, the TV and stereo are hidden in an invisible cupboard and an antique walnut wardrobe is home to a computer and desk.

SINGLE CABINS AND SHOWERS FOR BRITISH SEAMEN ON BOARD THE KINGFISHER

Single cabins, spring mattresses, shower-baths, drying rooms - these are some of the amenities for the 13 men manning the 541 Ton London owned cargo ship Kingfisher, which sets a new standard in luxurious accommodation for British seamen. Commissioned in January, the new coaster is a model for post-war merchant ships, as these pictures show.
