FEATURE - Vater bringt Tochter in Verlegenheit, weil er passende Covid-Gesichtsmasken und -rawatten trägt
A dad has been embarrassing his daughter by wearing matching virus protection facemasks and ties to work.
Steve Montgomery’s daughter Kiana, from San Antonio, Texas, has been documenting her father’s stylish PPE on social media. However, her comment has been simply “Dad..... whyyyyy”.
The 57-year-old car salesman said his girlfriend fashions the co-ordinated accessories from matching tie and pocket square sets.
Steve told Insider his girlfriend, Qin Latimer, makes them. She is now in the process of setting up an Etsy online shop.
"I don't like all of those medical-looking masks, so I'm having fun with it and actually enjoy wearing a mask now," Steve told Insider.

FEATURE - Büro der Zukunft nach Covid-19?
The post-Covid-19 office could see people working in sealed pods.
The award-winning Q.workntine concept is an air tight pod system designed to provide safety and protection within the physical work place while maintaining the same number of employees per square meter as a traditional office system.
The idea is the brainchild of architect Mohamed M. Radwan, who recently won the DNA Paris 2020 Design Award, in the Responsible Design category.
So-called Qwork-pods are a Hexagonal hive-like shape, which offer flexibly to suit any office layout. They can also be customised to fit in 90 degrees angles and can be elongated to accommodate for top executives and management.
They feature an automatic, handless airtight acrylic door, controlled by facial recognition, and ventilation fans with built-in air purifiers. The pod is envisioned as made of hygiene friendly non-porous materials that can be easily cleaned and disinfected to avoid contamination.
Mohamed M. Radwan explains “With the world under lockdown for an extended period of time, some essential businesses still have to keep at least the bare minimum of its workforce, working physically on site to provide necessary and vital supplies for the health supply chain. And the longer the quarantine continues, more companies may be forced to do the same, as shortages will hit the global market.”

FEATURE - Österreichischer Künstler kreiert skurrile Gesichtsmasken
Austrian artist Matthias Kretschmer has created MORE masks in his challenge to create an eye-catching face mask every day in the lockdown period. (First masks pictures available: info@cover-images.com)
The creative says he did not want to put his brush down during the pandemic, but instead begin “to implement the current events and impressions of the Corona crisis in terms of design.”
Matthias says he began when masks became a requirement in supermarkets in Austria on April 6. However, he says the artistic project will end with the mask requirement in most public areas on June 15. Two weeks later, 70 masks will be presented for the first time at the exhibition in the BernARTgasse studio.
Kretschmer says his masks are inspired by the daily events surrounding the crisis, including the controversial death of George Floyd in America.
Matthias says: “We aim to master the entire corona crisis seriously, but with a little humour. Every single mask is unique, inspired by personal impressions on one hand, and the events of the world during the Corona crisis on another.
“It is a challenge for yourself to master the entire corona crisis seriously, but with a little humour. The many positive reactions to this still vague art project were motivation and incentive enough to develop the masquerade in a disciplined manner and to present a new mask every day.”

FEATURE - Leben nach Lockdown: Ampel, die mit Fuss und nicht mit den Händen aktiviert wird
With a new attitude to surface hygiene – a design partnership has developed a pedestrian button that you kick instead of activating with your hand.
According to Foreward, an Australian design thinktank by Greenpoint Media and ODO, the Dropkick button can be retrofitted with current traffic light poles to keep any upgrades minimally invasive and cost efficient. The project team believe the concept would help prevent infection in future pandemics.
They explain: “There was a general consensus that these buttons were not hygenic. The negative connotation is further amplified with the rampant rise of COVID-19 and the growing obsession with public hygiene. As reported in the Journal, studies show that the surfaces of these buttons have been breeding grounds for bacteria with swabs showing significant colonies of bacteria dwelling on them. Even active wiping down of these buttons may prove to be futile with the bacteria becoming more dominant if they survive. Reappropriating this to the context of COVID-19, traces of COVID virus were found on stainless steel surfaces even after 72 hours after contact. “
The team also reference that some crossing buttons do not influence the flow of traffic but are merely a placebo for those waiting to cross.
They say: “You’d imagine that in the 21st century that that technology would advance beyond needing to operate buttons. In fact, some cities are already putting in place sensor activated pedestrian crossing buttons. It was also discovered that many of these buttons don't actually contribute to the timing or speed of activating a crossing as most of them work to a pre-determined schedule during peak hours, making them placebo buttons as quoted in the Guardian article. Could it be that these buttons exist for the sole purpose of satisfying the human need of feeling as though they have actively done something to reduce waiting times, much like the “close” button in elevators. We suspect that there could not be a re
