Hostage families protest flotilla to Gaza
August 7th, 2025 - Israel. A flotilla of about 11 vessels, organized by the families of Israeli hostages still held by the terrorist organization Hamas, set out Thursday morning from the Ashkelon Marina toward Gaza waters, with an urgent plea for the return of their loved ones. The protest, named "Flotta 50" after the 50 hostages, living and dead, held by the terrorists, lasted about two hours, on a route that did not come too close to the Gaza coast due to the risk of rocket fire and mortar shells. About 20 relatives of the hostages participated in the demonstration, which was held in coordination with the Israeli Police and the Israeli Defense Forces. The boats waved yellow flags (a symbol of the call for the release of the hostages) and were decorated with protest signs. Three of the boats carried the families and journalists. When the boats reached the vicinity of Gaza, each boat called out to Gaza through megaphones, broadcasting the "immediate" maritime distress signal and throwing life rafts into the sea.
