Children Draw Queen For Card Competition
This colourful collection of pictures shows how school children today see the Queen as she prepares to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee.
The youngsters designed their own cards with imaginative images of Queen Elizabeth II as part of a national competition celebrating her 60 year reign - and they are now on sale at the royal estate in Sandringham, Norfolk.
The fun drawings, created by children between the ages of three and 12 with crayons, paint and felt tips, all show the Queen with a big smile on her face.
In several pictures she is featured walking her corgis, while others show her sitting on the throne with her feet up, riding in a limousine and standing on a podium flanked by beefeaters.
Almost all the designs show the Queen wearing her crown and expensive earrings and necklaces.
Seven-year-old Bethany Thornton, from Southend in Essex, has drawn the Queen looking tiny, sitting on a huge golden throne watching the fireworks.
While five-year-old Connor Joslin, from Leigh-on-sea in Essex, has painted the Queen walking her corgi wearing a very glamorous dress and sash.
Little Ammena Ashad, aged eight, has drawn a very young looking Queen with blonde hair relaxing on the throne, while eight-year-old Rohan Hart shows Her Majesty as she is today with grey curly hair and even an English rose buttonhole.
The overall winner was Abubakr Amir, aged 12, which shows the Queen sailing down the River Thames on her special day.
"Sixty years on the throne is such an amazing achievement I wanted to do something to mark it and I was stunned at the huge number of entries," said Lynn Tait, who organised the competition.
"All the cards are really different and they give a whole generation's view of how they see the Queen at this time.
