Here's Something to Buzz About in
HERE'S SOMETHING TO BUZZ ABOUT IN
Could this insect-like chopper be the commuting vehicle of the future?
Looking like a flying bug, the one-seater craft is perfect for BUZZING around the city.
The brainchild of Japanese designer Yutaka Igarashi, the vehicle may seem like a prop from a sci-fi film but Igarashi believes it could be produced using today's technology.
Bu he says the combination of an ultralight body and very powerful engine means that it could only be controlled by computer as it would be too much for a human driver.
The pilot would strap themselves in, put on a helmet with a HUD display and sit back as the helicopter zips along using a 'Fly-by-Wire' system.
Igarashi says: "The lightweight frame combined with the powerful engine means it would be so unbalanced that a man couldn't control it.
"The operation is easier when engine power is restricted, however, the fast and furious movements it shows when operated at peak power can even lead an expert pilot to injury."
But while Igarashi believes that the design is feasible, he hints that it may cost too much to make a reality. He says: "It is not a future vehicle; it requires today's highest technology as well as an infinite budget as a premise."
