The makers of a fighter jet being developed to fire onboard laser weapons have shown off the construction. Of s first prototype.
The combat aircraft called Tempest is set to come into service in 2035 and will be one of the world’s most advanced adaptable and connected fighter jets in service.
It will boast an intelligent weapons system, a software-driven interactive cockpit, integrated sensors and a powerful next generation radar capable of providing 10,000 times more data than current systems, giving it a battle-winning advantage.
The new aircraft is a joint effort by Britain, Italy and Japan and is being built in the UK by aerospace and defence firm BAE Systems.
It has shown off a rendering of the demonstrator and an airframe being built on the factory floor.
BAE says the demonstrator is already two-thirds completed, including the fuselage and wings.
The manufacturing process includes 3D printing and robots designed to work closely and safely with human workers.
Test pilots including from Britain’s Royal Air Force have already flown over 300 simulated hours.
This has allowed for rapid improvements of the flight controls by putting them and the simulated aircraft through complex flight operations.
The Tempest has a modular design for quick upgrades, integrated AI and machine learning system.
There are also controls for turning the fighter into a command and control centre for drone swarms.

Adidas Launches the Beckham by J. Bond Collection, Los Angeles, America - 30 Sep 2009
A casually dressed David Beckham was on hand to day to launch his latest clothing range with Adidas. Beckham's Adidas Originals collection has been created in collaboration with the J. Bond Collection. The classic American sportswear/ casualwear range features luxury materials such as cashmere and silk, while the footwear takes its inspiration from iconic adidas products. David himself has already been seen out and about modelling one of the key designs - a leather Puffer Jacket. The footballer has obviously caught the design bug from wife Victoria, who has re-created herself as a respected fashion designer. And Victoria was by David's side last night to support his latest fashion efforts. However, the pair presented a somewhat mismatched message with Victoria going for her usual full on glamour in a fitted, strapless black dress and purple heels. Meanwhile, David cut and altogether more casual figure in jeans, trainers and a hoody.

Royal Mail stamps to celebrate 50th anniversary of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Britain - 11 Apr 2011
Royal Mail is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) with a new set of ten stamps. The stamps each feature a defining scene from a RSC production alongside a famous quote from each play. They include a first class stamp of David Tennant's Hamlet from 2008, a GBP 1.10p stamp featuring Sir Ian McKellen and Francesca Annis playing Romeo and Juliet in 1976 and a 76p stamp showing Paul Scofield's King Lear from 1962. An additional miniature sheet of stamps will also commemorate the RSC's four theatres. Royal Mail Stamps spokesperson Philip Parker said: "We wanted to mark this important anniversary by producing stamps which reflect the drama and excitement generated through Royal Shakespeare Company productions over the past five decades."

Check out the heavy metal on these celebs.
With such beefy bangles weighing them down these fashion forward stars have no need for the gym.
Instead their cumbersome cuffs and ample arm bands are more than enough to build some serious muscle.
Dripping with bling and laden down with sparkle these bulky bracelets pack a hefty fashion punch.
Which goes to show that a beefy bangle is one way to make an off the cuff style statement.
If the fashion police were to investigate these stylish stars would all escape without even a slap on the wrist.
