NEWS - München: Angela Merkel im Festzelt bei der Truderinger Festwoche
May 28, 2017 - MüNchen, Bayern, Germany - Signs endorsing Merkel. The Bundeskanzlerin (Chancellor) of Germany Angela Merkel (CDU) visited a beer tent in the Trudering district of Munich’s east end, hosted by her Bavarian sister party, the CSU (Christian Socialist Union). The event was rescheduled from the 23rd due to the terror attack in Manchester. This visit was designed to be a more relaxed affair than previous ones, as Merkel’s CDU and its branch in Bavaria, the right-conservative CSU, have had antagonistic relations as of late. Despite the negative relations often reported in the media, particularly due to critical statements by CSU head Horst Seehofer, questionnaires reveal 73% of the party’s followers back Merkel’s confirmation for another term. Issues of particular disagreement revolves around refugee policy and the refugee crisis and national security. Approximately 2,500 were in attendance. The event was designed to draw as many CSU voters possible to support Merkel. A portion of the CSU’s disenfranchised voters feel the party is not sufficiently right-leaning, thus they are voting for the radical-right Alternative fuer Deutschland (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)
