MOTHERS JOIN IN HONG KONG CHILDREN
Chinese mothers, babies slung from their backs, sign up to get their food - served by army volunteers - at the annual children's party given by the Hong Kong society for the protection of children. Besides helping with the food, army men took children for Jeep and pony rides. Nearly 1,500 mothers and children were given a hot meal, entertainment, and gifts.

WORDS AROUND THE WORLD
28 January 1950
Mr J A Shepherd, 73 stands by while his wife, Mrs Shepherd 71, exchanges the first words in 27 years with their Son Leslie, in Australia - at their home Kenwood, Sandy Lane, Upton, Poole, Hants today (Saturday).
Leslie now 43 and the father of three children, emigrated when he was 16.
The call - five minutes at a pound a minute - was arranged secretly by Mr and Mrs Shepherd's daughter, Mrs S Hunt. It was her present to her parents, who today celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. They were married in London fifty years ago. The call to Leslie went to the Tolga post office in Queensland. THE DOC'S PRIZE CATCH
The sort of catch that fishermen dream about has been brought off by Dr .A.B.K.Watkins, of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia, who is pictured with the giant tunny weighing 423.lbs which he landed on his first day's fishing of Scarborough, Yorkshire. The doctor is Vice President of the New South Wales game Fishing Association, and he is over here on a business trip. One of the most noted game fish anglers in Australia, he thinks that the tackle used in this country is far too heavy.

Pat works in a cafe where she doesn't have to wear any special uniform. It's a hot and often exhausting job, but she keeps cool and fresh in a simple tailored frock in a linen weave rayon. She finds this material does not soil easily or crush and is simple to launder every week. The dress, though plain, is very smart and at the end of the day off comes the apron and she's ready to step out. Her little apron is plastic, in a deeper blue than her dress. This is coupon free and only needs sponging down to keep it spotless. She gains more good marks for her shoes which look practical with their smooth fit and wide heels to keep her smiling all day.

HUNTING IN A SEA OF ICE
Hardy hunters smash their way through the ice covered seas north of Russia.
Seals, walruses and white bears constitute their "bag" - and adventure of the most hazardous kind too.
