    Galapagos animal paradise
August 6, 2024 - Galapagos Islands, Ecuador: A red footed booby takes off in flight on Genovesa Island. The Galapagos archipelago is known for its rich animal life: wide variety of finches, swimming marine iguanas, flightless cormorant, fur seals living side by side with tropical animals, and many more species. The government of Ecuador designated part of the Galapagos a wildlife sanctuary in 1935, and in 1959 the sanctuary became the Galapagos National Park. In 1978 the islands were designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, and in 1986 the Galapagos Marine Resources Reserve was created to protect the surrounding waters. • Solar Impulse takes off from Cincinnati
    DUKAS_31591199_POL
Solar Impulse takes off from Cincinnati
June 15, 2013 - Cincinnati, Ohio, United States: Solar Impulse's HB-SIA prototype, with Bertrand Piccard at the controls takes off from after a 14-hour pit stop at Lunken Airfield, en route to Washington. The flight to Dulles International Airport is the second half of the 4th leg of the 2013 Across America mission, the first crossing of the United States by a solar-powered airplane capable of flying day and night. That leg was split due to strong cross and head winds that slow the aircraft and make it impossible for the pilot to reach the nation's capital in one go in less than 24 hours which is the limit set for the pilot in the cramped single-seater cockpit. Solar Impulse is flying across the country on stages over May-June-July from San Francisco with stops in Phoenix, Dallas, St. Louis and Washington, before reaching New York's JFK airport, its final destination in early July.
