Artisans decorate a temporary pandal under construction and use disposable plastic bottles with the theme of plastic pollution in Kolkata, India, on September 9, 2025, ahead of the Durga Puja festival. As the world's population continues to grow, the amount of garbage that people produce also increases. On-the-go lifestyles require easily disposable products, such as soda cans or bottles of water, but the accumulation of these products leads to increasing amounts of plastic pollution around the world. As plastic is composed of major toxic pollutants, it has the potential to cause great harm to the environment in the form of air, water, and land pollution ahead of the Durga Puja Hindu festival. The festival starts on September 28 and ends on October 2. (Photo by Debajyoti Chakraborty/NurPhoto)

Tennis players can now get in a towering service every time – thanks to a skyscraper made of tennis courts. The 90-meter high structure, called Playscraper ,consists of eight courts, totalling 5,500 square meters of playing space. It contains eight sandwich structures piled on top of the other, each containing a stand-alone tennis court. The narrow sides of each “box” feature transparent walls offering panoramic views. The two long sides incorporate an electronic facade that can stream sports matches and other digital content. In this way, the tower’s unique design engages not just the players on the court, but those in the surrounding area who can view the action on its wide screens. The beauty is that it could be erected and dismantled so would be ideal as a attraction at sporting venues or public parks. For example, it could follow tennis tournam

The first patients have been admitted to the NHS Nightingale hospital in London's ExCel Centre as the coronavirus pandemic rages on. Those being admitted will already be on a ventilator and will remain at the hospital until their course of ventilation is finished, the hospital's chief medical director said. The ExCel was transformed into a huge field hospital with a capacity for 4,000 patients as cases and deaths in the capital continue to soar.
