Grouped around the base of the spine are even larger lead books, while a large snake coils the spine. Lead is one of the artist's preferred materials for its fluid and soft properties traditionally associated with alchemical transformation, especially its second stage: dissolution. Jon Chonko's Scanwiches ongoing photo project sees him placing his lunchtime snacks directly onto a scanner.
By cutting the sandwich in half, the picturial results are mouth-watering glimpses of his deli delights.
The Brooklyn-based designer says his project is "for education and delight".
Jon says he has scanned more than 200 sandwiches, published a book and shown his work at several New York galleries.
Some of his latest range from a selection of tea sandwiches with the crusts cut off, to a simple Bologna.
There is also tasty-looking a Maine Lobster Roll, various burgers and a Uruguayan Chivito.

Men and boys training in a traditional gym for the Iranian martial art of Zurkhaneh, which is Persian for 'House of Power'. Zurkhaneh consists of seven main exercises practiced using special tools shaped after ancient weapons such as the sword, mace, shield and bow. The practice dates back more than 800 years, when Persia was invaded by the Mongols. A resistance movment formed, with men gathering in secret groups to train for the fight against the Mongol hordes.

These stunning images show a year in the life of the largest air force in the world.
The United States Air Force has operations all over the world and enlisted photographers are there to capture the action.
The service's specialist Airman magazine has curated the most impactful imagery from 2013 for a special issue entitled 'Year in Visuals'.
As would be expected, the gallery features awesome images of aircraft, but there are also personal military stories including a striking image of Capt. Candice Adams Ismirle preparing for cancer radiation treatment, while Staff Sgt. Ron Blodgett is shown in tears as he embraces his son after returning from a deployment in Southwest Asia.
Managing editor Tech. Sgt. Chris Powell explains: "We pride ourselves on publishing the powerful imagery and videos Air Force photographers and broadcasters produce every day. Ornamental Hands series references the elegant hand positions often seen in historic artworks throughout the centuries. Each work consists of splint-like attachments for the fingers that are suspended by chains and braced on the wrist, positioning the hands marionette style.
Statement Jewellery Encourages Gesture
Here is a collection of jewellery that will get you noticed.
Making a bold statement this series of mechanical jewellery on first glance almost looks like Victorian torture instruments, but are infact designed to amplify body language and encourage gesture.
Created by American designer Jennifer Crupi, the pieces interpret and force various actions and positions of the body - such as the 'power gesture' which requires the user to assume the authoritative steepled fingers, or the 'leg bouncer' which focuses on the ubiquitous anxious tick.
The 39-year-old who lives in New Jersey says her work is inspired by people and their body language.
"Part of my interest in body language also stems from the fact that I have always been a very self-conscious person. I seem to constantly be aware of how I look and am perceived by others," explains Jennifer.
Believing that jewellery plays a great part in body language and the way people portray themselves to others Jennifer has created a series called 'Ornamental Hands' which references elegant hand positions often seen in artworks throughout the centuries.
She says: "Rather than wearing a bracelet to adorn your hand, why not wear a bracelet that positions your hand in a decorative and elegant way?
"The marionette-like jewellery also reinforces the idea of training the hand to rest in this graceful manner."
