The Gullah Geechee people in a complex struggle over land
Residents of St Helena are divided over a proposed golf course, illustrating a wider tug of war over the islandÕs future.
The dispute illustrates the broader tug of war between preservation and growth on the sea islands throughout the south-east US.
For many Gullah Geechee people, golf courses have been considered the "beginning of the end", said the Penn Center's director, Robert Adams.

Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day movie star Bill Murray made a splash with a video conference TV appearance – from his bathroom.The actor , 69, sat in the tub at his home in South Carolina, where he is in quarantine, USA wearing a bobble hat and t-shirt for his long distance for the Jimmy Kimmel chat show.And while talking to the host, it gradually filled with bubbles as he kept a shower hose running.By the time his 10 minute slot was over, he sat back in the foam and brought out a bottle of champagne from under the water to enjoy while in lockdown.Murray, also star of acclaimed move Lost in Translation, was on the Kimmel show to help promote the charity Restaurant Employee Relief Fund.It raises money for restaurant and bar staff who have been laid off because of the coroanvirus pandemic.Murray co-owns a New York restaurant.In addition he is co-owner of local baseball team the Charleston RiverDogs where he said his job was “ director of fun.”Because all sport in the US is currently banned, the team is serving up takeaway food.
