Taronga Zoo has played host to a first date with a difference, with keepers introducing two endangered Pygmy Hippos to each other for the first time.

Young breeding pair, Fergus and Kambiri, were far from shy during their first physical meeting, quickly coming nose-to-nose in the water.

?It may look a bit like hippo kisses, but that?s how Pygmy Hippos interact and get to know one another. They interact with their noses and also show their strength and dominance with open mouth gesturing,? said keeper Johny Wade.

They look like surreal sneak peeks from the next Star Wars movie.

In fact, these animal-themed Stormtrooper helmets are the work of sci-fi loving artist Blank William.

The New York-based artist created the serious based on his love of the long-running film franchise.

Entitled The New Order, the work sees helmets made for hippopotamus, elephants and rhinoceros.

Blank's spokesperson explains: "The New Order came first from his love of Star Wars and second for his love of animals. It was interesting for him to think that he grew up in a world where his idols growing up were Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Stormtroopers. In another time, animals such as Elephants, Hippos, and Rhinos were once revered in the same way."
