Bruce Nauman exhibition at the Tate Modern, Bankside, London.
Bruce Nauman exhibition at the Tate Modern, Bankside, London.
Run From Fear
Fun From Rear
1996
First new exhibition since the reopening of the gallery this summer. Bruce Nauman is recognised as one of the most innovative and influential artists of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, with a ground-breaking body of work encompassing a range of media. This exhibition at Tate Modern will be the first to show Naumanís full breadth of work in London for more than 20 years, offering sculpture, sound, film, video and neon works that explore distinctive themes that have preoccupied the artist during his remarkable 50-year career.
Many of Naumanís famous neon works including Human Nature Knows/Doesnít Know 1983/86, Hanged Man 1985 and the striking wall sculpture One Hundred Live and Die 1984
Seminal room-sized installation Shadow Puppets and Instructed Mime 1990 which has never been shown in the UK before.
A room of rarely seen early works including Concrete Tape Recorder Piece 1968 and Manipulating the T-Bar 1965-66, revealing Naumanís radical approach to art from his early career.
Several works by Nauman in public concourse spaces around the gallery, including the timely video work Washing Hands 1996 on level 0 and the artistís earliest text-based neon sculpture, The True Artist Helps the World by Revealing Mystic Truth (Window or Wall Sign) 1967 at the entrance to the exhibition.
Immersive installation work Black Marble Under Yellow Light 1981/1988, where the whole room is bathed in an ominous yellow light with disorienting marble blocks across the floor.

Bruce Nauman exhibition at the Tate Modern, Bankside, London.
One Hundred Live and Die 1984
