Israel-Hamas War 2025: Hostage Crisis Protest
August 28, 2025, Jerusalem, Israel: Hostage families and supporters near the Prime Minister's private residence call for an immediate hostage deal to save the remaining 50 Israelis held in Gaza for 692 days. Frustration mounts as the government cabinet meets with an agenda protestors deem trifle and irrelevant. Many hold the PM Netanyahu personally accountable for allegedly undermining potential hostage release negotiations for political and personal gain. As Netanyahu’s government passes legislation overturning the judicial system, critics suggest Netanyahu's actions aim to undermine independent institutions while he faces trial for alleged corruption, posing a threat to Israeli democracy and national security. The ongoing conflict began with the October 7, 2023 attacks that saw 1,400 Israeli civilians massacred and 240 abducted. (Credit Image: © Nir Alon/ZUMA Press Wire (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)

August 17, 2025, Jerusalem, Israel: Widespread protests take place across the country, with demonstrators advocating for a national strike and an immediate agreement for the release of the remaining 50 Israeli hostages held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip. The call for action comes 681 days into their captivity, against a backdrop of public frustration over the government's handling of the conflict and continued Israeli military casualties in the Gaza Strip. The conflict was initiated by the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack and massacre, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,400 Israelis and the abduction of 240. 'We are all grieving': Israel falls silent to mark a month since Hamas attack
Outpouring of grief, anger and community as vigils held to remember the 1,400 killed and the hostages held in Gaza.
Israel fell silent on Tuesday to observe a minute's silence to mark one month since the Hamas terrorist attacks that killed 1,400, mostly civilians at home and at a festival, and injured many more.
Throughout the day thousands attended ceremonies held by public organisations and institutions. Schools, universities and youth movements arranged special lessons, lectures and other activities.
