Rail Services Suspended Across Catalonia Barcelona Spain
January 21, 2026, Barcelona, Spain: Railway tracks lie empty at Barcelona's Estacio de Franca after rail services across Catalonia were suspended due to safety concerns, and as train drivers have called a three-day strike. A Barcelona commuter train crashed the night before, killing one person and injuring 37 others, authorities said. The crash came two days after Spain’s worst railway disaster since 2013, which left many Spaniards in disbelief. The death toll in that crash, in southern Spain, rose to 43. A serious fault has suspended services and staff are struggling to control 1000’s of passengers at the station. All trains heading north to Manchester have been suspended.
