Ravages of war: rape in Eastern Congo
The total collapse of post and pre natal care services for mothers has led to increasing problems for women giving birth. The massive increase in sexual violence has also led many women to have complications while in labour due to injuries sustained while being raped. There are no facilities to deal with this and very often the midwives will resort to having to kill the baby in order to save the life of the mother.
