Protest Against The Budget Cuts For 2026 Called By All Unions
Youths react and hold a banner reading 'Students and workers against Macron and militarization'. Called by all trade unions united, dozens of thousands of people take to the streets in Toulouse, France, on September 18, 2025, against Macron's economic policies after a day called 'Bloquons tout' (Block everything) on September 10. It launches at the beginning of the summer on social networks against Macron's politics: downsizing the welfare state to cut taxes for businesses, increasing the Defense budget and Interior Ministry, and his choice of conservative Sebastien Lecornu as the new Prime Minister. His pro-business stance angers French people who blockade everywhere in France on September 10. Riot police receive orders to show no tolerance towards blockades and use volleys of tear gas canisters. After blockading, people come to protest and scuffle with riot police. Several days prior, President Donald Trump invoked section 740 of Washington, D.C.'s Home Rule Act of 1973, federalizing the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and deploying over 800 National Guard troops, citing crime-fighting reasons. (Photo by Bryan Dozier/NurPhoto) -

Protest Against Education Privatization In Colombo
Sri Lanka's doctors for free education stage a protest in front of General Hospital against education privatization and the abolition of KDU (The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University) in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on July 24, 2025. The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) is at the center of heated debate in Sri Lanka regarding the privatization and militarization of higher education. Several government decisions in 2025, especially the restriction of civilian and local student admissions to its medical faculty, intensify public discussion about educational equity, government policy, and the future of free education in Sri Lanka. In May 2025, KDU abruptly stops admitting fee-paying civilian students to its undergraduate medical program. This move is justified by government spokespeople as a return to KDU's original mandate to train military cadets but is met with widespread criticism from student groups, medical associations, and political leaders.
