A defence system that puts a virtual dome over an area ranging from a few kilometres to several thousands has been unveiled.
Called SkyDefender, it is said to offer full protection against all types of air threats from slow-moving drones to hypersonic missiles.
France-based multinational defence company Thales says the modular system is made up of several pieces of technology.
One called ForceShield creates a real protection bubble against lower layer and surface threats at very short- and short-range, such as drones.
For protection from medium-range threats the dome integrates a missile system called SAMP/T NG, which can engage airborne threats at distances of up to 150 km.
It also features Thales’ Ground Fire radar, providing up to 350 km of detection range.
It can detect or track targets in any direction around it a full 360° and from ground level all the way up to straight overhead (0° to 90° vertically.
This creates a dome-shaped detection space above the device with no horizontal blind spots.
An early-warning capability gives the system a unique capacity to identify hard-to-find targets including fighter jets and ballistic missiles at distances of up to 5,000 km.

The Great Isaiah Scroll At The Israel Museum
February 22, 2026, Jerusalem, Israel: HAGIT MAOZ, Curator of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Shrine of the Book, points out significant findings in The Great Isaiah Scroll. This parchment, widely regarded as the Holy Grail of the Dead Sea Scrolls, is shown in its full 7.34 meter (24 foot) length during a press preview at the Israel Museum. The centerpiece of the landmark exhibition, A Voice from the Desert, this 2,100 year old manuscript is the oldest and most complete biblical scroll in existence. Tomorrow’s opening marks the first time the entire parchment has been unrolled for public viewing since 1968. Due to its extreme fragility, the scroll, which predates the next oldest Hebrew Bible by over a millennium, is typically kept in a climate controlled vault, with only small portions rotated for display. The event commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Shrine of the Book, the specialized sanctuary designed to preserve these foundational texts of Western civilization.
