NEWS - USA: Heftige Schneefälle in New York
Tourists and workers trudge through the snow in Lower Manhattan in front of the New York Stock Exchange during the first nasty winter storm of the new year on Thursday, January 4, 2018. Mother Nature is predicted to dump 5 to 8 inches of snow in the city and to make matters worse, is adding gusty winds into the mix. The snow will be followed by single digit temperatures guaranteeing that the mounds of the white stuff will never melt. (ÂPhoto by Richard B. Levine) *** Local Caption *** 21931275

On top of Mt Wellington in Tasmania, Australia. It was so foggy that visibility was terrible. I had my friend wait out in the distance until there was a break in the cloud so that Hobart City was visible
Striking landscapes, Australia - Aug 2016
Australia's scenic splendour comes in all shapes and sizes, from its valleys and beaches to the Sydney Opera House's white sails.

There's not a kangaroo or koala in sight in this different, beautiful vision of what Australia is all about for some. Instead, this photo series captures breath-taking moments during adventures - including an exquisite shot of horsemen galloping through fog.

This is just another take of the classic view over Sgurr Fiona and the impressive ridge of An Teallach (Dundonell, NW Scotland) taken at sunset on a wild camping trip at the end of auutumn. Unfortunately the cloud cover prevented an explosion of colours at sunset, but visibility remained decent, so no complaining from me. I would have loved to get lower to emphasize the sandstone rocks a little more, but this would have concealed Loch Toll an Lochain.

A photographer has released a stunning series of photos that show the raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

Scotland-based photographer Camillo Berenos has spent the past few years travelling though the highlands, capturing breath-taking pictures along the way.

Camillo said: "Unlike many who undertake such projects, I haven't focused on a single defined geographical area, though the majority of my photographic forays have taken me to the Western and North-Western Highlands.

"From the vast but also familiar landscapes of Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe, to the relentlessly steep slopes of the hills in Kintail and the rugged and shapely mountain massifs of Torridon and Wester Ross, I have spent many hours in the hills, with specific destinations often primarily being determined by where the weather forecast looked most favourable."

A sandstorm moves in to hamper visibility at the Iraq-Syria border crossing towns of Al-Yarubiyah, Syria, and Rabia, Iraq.
    Syrian-Kurdish YPJ fighters on the Syrian-Iraq Border - 28 Sep 2014
Facing each other across the Iraq-Syria border, the towns of Al-Yarubiyah, Syria, and Rabia, Iraq, were taken by Islamic State insurgents in August 2014. Since then The town of Al-Yarubiyah and parts of Rabia have been re-taken by fighters from the Syrian Kurdish YPG. At present the situation in the towns is static, but with large exchanges of sniper and heavy machine gun fire as well as mortars and rocket propelled grenades, recently occasional close quarter fighting has taken place as either side tests the defences of the other.

Facebook shuts down Dippy the penguin's page because 'he is not human', Isle of Wight, Britain - Feb 2011
Facebook has upset thousands of children by shutting down the profile of a wildlife park's penguin without warning - for not being human. 'Dippy' has been the star attraction at Seaview Wildlife Encounter near Ryde on the Isle of Wight since 1997 and was the first penguin to own a Facebook page. Youngsters make regular visits to feed him fish - and nearly 3,000 fans from across the globe have been following his antics on Facebook for the past two years. Hundreds of photos posted included Dippy visiting a local ice rink, travelling to the island by hovercraft and wearing cute costumes including an England football shirt and Santa outfit. He has also been snapped meeting celebrities including Dancing On Ice stars Kyran Bracken and Daniel Whiston. Wildlife park's bosses used his profile as a light-hearted educational tool to inform children about conservation issues and Dippy had around 3,000 Facebook friends.
