The blockbusting trailer for the fifth and final series of Netflix supernatural series Stranger Things has aired.
The new series will start streaming in November with the final episode on New Year’s Eve.
The trailer includes a long close-up on main monster Vecna, a humanoid being with psychic powers.
His blood is the source of the superhuman abilities of character Eleven, played by English actress Millie Bobby Brown who is seen leaping a huge fence and using her powers to send out an apocalyptic-like shockwave.
Vecna is heard saying: “We can begin,” thought to be a reference to the destruction of the universe.
Stranger Things , which first aired in 2016, is set in the fictional rural town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s.
The nearby Hawkins National Laboratory ostensibly performs scientific research for the United States Department of Energy.
It also secretly experiments with the paranormal and supernatural, sometimes with human test subjects.
Over a soundtrack of rock band Queen’s track, Who Wants to Live Forever, the trailer sees returning character Mike , played by Finn Wolfhard, telling his friends: “find Vecna and end this once and for all.”
Demogorgons, monsters from another dimension, rip through the soldiers who’ve placed Hawkins in quarantine.
Eleven and Hopper played by David Harbour appear to be on their own campaign within a parallel world known as Upside Down.
In the final moments of the trailer, Vecna — standing in a military base in flames, and filled with dead soldiers — levitates leading character Will Byers played by Noah Schnapp.
Byers was abducted by a Demogorgon and taken to the Upside Down i where he managed to survive before being rescued.
Vecna draws him close, stares into his face and tells him: “William, you are going to help me — one last time.”

Here’s the first facial glimpse of Saltburn actor Jacob Elordi as the monster in a new big screen adaptation of Frankenstein.
The Australian’s half covered face is revealed at the end of the first full trailer for the latest big scare version of British author Mary Shelley's 1818 classic horror novel.
Elordi’s face is kept hidden for much of the footage but the final frames show him confronting his maker, US actor Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein.
The seemingly indestructible monster lights a stick of dynamite and advises his creator to run.
The film has been directed by Mexico’s Guillermo del Toro known for dark movies like Pan’s Labyrinth.
Elordi’s face is kept hidden in the trailer but his hooded figure is seen taking on a boat load of sailors.
Immune to their bullets he tips a ship trapped in ice over on its side.
Another scene shows Isaac’s Frankenstein selecting an eyeball for the being he is creating,
A more touching scene shows the monster’s face being caressed by Victor Frankenstein’s fiancee played by Mia Goth
The all-star cast also includes Games of Thrones actor Charles Dance and award winning Christoph Waltz,
Frankenstein is due to hit screens in November both in the cinema and on Netflix streaming.
