Jeremy Clarkson missed out on joining Richard Hammond and James May for the first birthday of DriveTribe, the largest online car community in the world, at the Cinnamon Club in Westminster, but was with them in cake form instead. Fortunately, Great British Bake Off's Francis Quinn filled in for Clarkson's absence by baking him into a rocky road cake.

Portraits of third gender people in Bangladesh, Bangladesh, Dec 2012

Pinky Guru (56) Right, the Hijra community leader shows her passion for expressions, joining followers in dance at a puja party.
Eye-Opening Portraits Explore The Lives Of Third Gender People In Bangladesh
Shahria Sharmin's poignant photo series Call Me Heena highlights the struggles of the transgender minority in Bangladesh, also known as the Hijras.
The term Hijra is often given to those of the 'third' or unknown gender in Bangladesh, and also parts of India and Pakistan.
While most of Western society is very accepting towards the transgender community, males who choose to live as females face are shunned from society in most of Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
"In Bangladesh Hijras hardly get an opportunity to have a normal life. They do not have any school to study, no temple to pray in, no government and private organizations would want to see them in their employee list. They have no access to legal system nor do even health service providers welcome them."
Shahria is a 42-year-old Bangladeshi photographer who is currently studying in London.
The photographer decided to take time to get to know the community who are outcast by so many.
"I, like almost everyone else in my society, was raised to see them as less than human. Their habits, way of life, and even their looks marked them as apart, different and deviant.
"Then I met Heena and she made me see how wrong I was. She opened her life to me, made me a part of her world and helped me to see beyond the word Hijra. She made me understand her, and others who live in her community, as the mothers, daughters, friends and lovers that they actually are."
Shahria began pursuing photography at the age of 38 and has worked as a freelance documentary photographer ever since.
After recognising that photography would enable her to tell stories and expl...

Captain stands on bow of Queen Mary 2 cruise ship, Bali, Indonesia - 02 Mar 2014
Captain Kevin Oprey is seen standing beneath the soaring hull of Cunard's flagship Queen Mary 2, the largest and most expensive Ocean Liner ever built, a mile off the coast of Bali during the ship's Round World Voyage in its 10th anniversary year. Captain Oprey surveys the scene from the top of the vessel's bulbous bow, an underwater projection that minimises the creation of bow waves around the waterline when the ship is under way. At 151,200 tons, Queen Mary 2 accommodates 2,620 passengers and 1,253 crew. In her first 10 years of operation, following a spectacular naming by Her Majesty The Queen on 8 January 2004, Queen Mary 2 has undertaken more than 420 voyages including over 200 transatlantic crossings and called at 182 ports in 60 countries. She remains the longest, tallest, widest ocean liner ever built as well as being the most famous and fastest passenger ship in operation today.

Baby elephant George celebrates 1st birthday by joining daily elephant walk at Whipsnade Zoo, Bedfordshire, Britain - 04 Apr 2011

Jumbo Sized Walk For Birthday Boy Elephant
To celebrate his 1st birthday baby elephant George got to hang out with the big boys.
The youngster from Whipsnade Zoo marked the milestone by joining the rest of the herd on their biggest daily adventure - a walk around the giant expanse of the zoo.
His involvement came after successful training by his keepers to ensure that George is able to walk trunk to tail without wandering off or getting distracted by the busy zoo.
The jumbo-sized walkabout is a rite of passage for a young elephant calf at Whipsnade and George is following in the footsteps of half sister Donna and big brother Euan.
On the walk George held onto his favourite "aunty" Lucha's tail with his trunk, while his own tail was held by mum Karishma.
Two and a half miles in length, the route takes in wonderful views across the Aylesbury Vale from the top of the Chiltern Downs.
And then there are all the sights and sounds of the zoo, including the Jumbo Express train.
Assistant curator of elephants Lee Sambrook said: "It is great exercise for George, stimulates him and provides great enrichment as well as being very good for public awareness of our elephants. It's wonderful for visitors to see them out and about."
George has made great progress in the last 12 months and has more than doubled in weight.
When he was first born he weighed 124kg (almost 20 stone) but he now tips the scales at a hefty 536kg.
Not so little George is no stranger to the limelight as his birth was captured by TV cameras filming a documentary about the zoo.
Meanwhile, Whipsnade also released an incredible 3D ultrasound picture showing George as an unborn foetus three months into his mother's 22-month long pregnancy.

G-20 Protest in the City of London, Britain - 01 Apr 2009
A man has died and 87 people were arrested in London today (1 April) after violence flared between police and G20 protesters. Thousands of demonstrators flooded into central London a day before global leaders are due to converge on the Docklands in London to discuss the current economic crisis. During the day of protest one man died after collapsing; when police went to his aid they were allegedly pelted with missiles and forced to retreat. A branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland also became a battleground as protesters squared off against police after smashing windows and forcing their way into the offices. To begin with police outnumbered protesters but as the afternoon went on around 6,000 people gathered in The City and the area around the Bank of England as four different marches converged on the area. The four groups, marching behind four "horsemen of the apocalypse" and represented various different interests, from the environment to lobbying for action against the banks.

Girls weekend away. What could be easier when the British weather turns to Summer than stopping along a roadside and setting up camp, just like these two friends. The young women start by removing the roof of the sidecar.
