    Bandung Faces A Waste Crisis
A sanitation worker climbs a pile of garbage at a temporary waste disposal site on Dakota Street in Bandung City, Indonesia, on November 11, 2025. The waste buildup occurs after garbage trucks are unable to access the Sarimukti landfill. The situation causes trash heaps at several temporary waste disposal site locations to rise over three meters high, nearly spilling onto the road, posing health risks and hazards to motorists and nearby residents. Plastic Bottle Recycling in Bangladesh
October 14, 2025, Dhaka, Bangladesh: Workers sort used plastic bottles in a recycling factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh. They help to prevent the bottles from being discarded, sent to landfill, where they can take 1,000 years to biodegrade, or incinerated, which produces toxic fumes. The emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases will be reduced if recycling takes place in the production of new plastics. This small yet significant act supports environmental sustainability by promoting a responsible cycle of reuse, reducing the strain on natural resources, and safeguarding our ecosystem for future generations. Environmental Pollution In Bangladesh
October 2, 2025, Dhaka, Bangladesh: The rivers and canals around Dhaka were once vital sanctuaries of biodiversity. Countless fish swam in their waters, serving as the main food source for fish-eating birds. But now that scene belongs to the past. What was once clear water is now occupied by heaps of garbage. Plastic, polythene, industrial waste, and household trash have severely polluted the water. Faced with a food crisis, fish-eating egrets are being forced to search for food in these piles of waste. Artisans decorate a temporary pandal under construction and use disposable plastic bottles with the theme of plastic pollution in Kolkata, India, on September 9, 2025, ahead of the Durga Puja festival. As the world's population continues to grow, the amount of garbage that people produce also increases. On-the-go lifestyles require easily disposable products, such as soda cans or bottles of water, but the accumulation of these products leads to increasing amounts of plastic pollution around the world. As plastic is composed of major toxic pollutants, it has the potential to cause great harm to the environment in the form of air, water, and land pollution ahead of the Durga Puja Hindu festival. The festival starts on September 28 and ends on October 2. (Photo by Debajyoti Chakraborty/NurPhoto)
