The work is on display until July 22. The Ureaus, presented by Gagosian and organized by the Public Art Fund and Tishman Speyer, consists of a giant open book with eagle wings 30 feet long, made entirely of lead, on top of a 20-foot-high stainless steel column . Grouped around the base of the spine are even larger lead books, while a large snake coils the spine. Lead is one of the artist's preferred materials for its fluid and soft properties traditionally associated with alchemical transformation, especially its second stage: dissolution.
