October 30, 2017 - Beersheba, Israel - Members of the Australian Light Horse Association, many of them descendants of ANZAC soldiers who fought in World War I, arrive at the outskirts of Beersheba following a three day ride in the desert reenacting their forefathers' onslaught of Beersheba on 31st October 1917 in World War One. Centenary commemorations mark the liberation of Beersheba in which General Allenby's troops breached the line of Ottoman defenses between Gaza and Beersheba. 800 soldiers of the Australian 4th and 12th Regiments of the 4th Light Horse Brigade under Brigadier General William Grant, with only horses and bayonets, charged the Turkish trenches, overran them and captured the wells of Beersheba in what has become known as the last successful cavalry charge in British military history (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)

Libya Desert Journey
A young man lights the coals of a nargileh, a water pipe in a plaza within the walls of the Medina in Tripoli, Libya on Sunday, March 23, 2008.
Libya is the country to visit in order to see the Sahara Desert in all its splendor. It sounds like an oxymoron, but ever since Colonel Qaddafi surprised the world announcing that Libya would give up its weapons programs, it has become one of the most politically stable countries in the region and thus an ideal place to travel to in order to see the wonders of the desert. And the Libyan Desert has it all. Marvel at the forbidding volcanic rock walls of the Jebel Acacus, climb dunes for as far as the eye can see, float in the salt water of a desert oasis and behold the ancient wonders of Leptis Magna, once the largest Roman city in Africa.
