    Typhoon Roke hits Japan
September 21, 2011, Tokyo, Japan: Typhoon Roke, the equivalent of a class 1 hurricane, hits central Japan. The storm came ashore near Hamamatsu City causing widespread flooding and shut down all rail and air service from Nagoya to Tokyo to Northeastern Japan, a region still reeling from the earthquake and tsunami disasters. With sustained winds of over 85 miles per hour at least six deaths were reported and 260,000 households are without electricity. In Aichi and Gifu prefectures in central Japan, 1.1 million were advised to evacuate due to flooding and landslides. In Tokyo damage was minimal, but all rail service was suspended from mid afternoon and well into the evening stranding millions of commuters during peak rush hour times. ///Commuters stranded by Typhoon Roke waiting in a taxi cue for over an hour at Tokyo's Shinjuku Station..
