Springhawk 21 Red Arrows Display Practice

Images taken from the back seat of Red 10ís jet during a photo chase.

The 9 jets is diamond formation.

Flying in glorious Greek sunshine, this is the Red Arrows perfecting and polishing manoeuvres ahead of the forthcoming display season.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team has deployed to Greece to carry out this essential pre-season training.

The five-week visit, which has recently got underway, is known as Exercise Springhawk and concludes at the end of May.

It allows the Red Arrows to prepare a safe, visually-appealing and world-class display.

The Red Arrowsí deployment to Greece means the team can operate in much more settled weather conditions than are often found in the UK and at its home base in Lincolnshire.

Springhawk, which is an annual exercise, is an extremely valuable, focussed and intense training period for both the Red Arrowsí air and ground crews.

The deployment provides opportunity to fly up to three times a day, with the aim of improving through every sortie and fully testing each aspect of the teamís activities.

A successful training exercise will permit the team to complete strict annual assessments on schedule, ready to perform for millions of people at what is expected to be a busy summer season in the UK.

The superb aerial imagery of the Red Arrows training in Greece was taken by Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team photographer Corporal Adam Fletcher flying with Red 10, Squadron Leader Adam Collins, in a photo chase flight.

The Red Arrows are extremely grateful for the support received from the Hellenic Air Force, the Greek authorities and the British Embassy ñ all of whom have worked closely to plan this exercise.

Kingís Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired a 41 Gun Salute to mark the birthday of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales today at 1200hrs Monday 15 Nov.

The Kingís Troop Royal Horse Artillery marked the birthday of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales by firing a 41 round Gun Salute from 6 guns in Green Park and simultaneously

All personnel from the Kingís Troop and the Honourable Artillery Company are undertaking this duty with a great degree or pride as they have been unable to fire full Royal Salutes in Royal Parks and in front of the general public and guests for 20 months.

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic all duties, such as the coronation salute and HRH Duke of Edinburghís funeral, have had to be conducted behind closed doors.

For many Gunners and horses from both Units this is a momentous occasion, as new Gunners and horses need to face the test of public scrutiny in the Royal Parks for the first time. All the hard work in training and learning their roles on parade will be put to the test as they deliver what used to be their bread and butter, Royal Salutes in Royal Parks. In a similar vein, this will be a spectacle and opportunity for the general public to see the Kingís Troop and Honourable Artillery Company mark this occasion.

A formation flight of specially painted Chinook and Puma helicopter took place on 25th November 2021, to mark over 90 years of combined service.

The occasion saw the aircraft take a commemorative flight over several locations in the South of England displaying their bespoke anniversary tail art.

The two uniquely painted airframes celebrated their individual anniversaries earlier this year, but this is their first formation flight as a pair.

The Puma (XW224), from RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, has completed 50 years of service, while the Chinook (ZD984), from RAF Odiham, Hampshire, has completed 40 years of service.

Each aircraftís tail art was especially commissioned to commemorate
the significant anniversaries of their entry into service with the Royal Air Force.

The flightpath included several iconic sites, stretching from the Isle of Wight to central London; with each location offering unique joint training opportunities for the crews who will often work together on operations.

There was double delight for destroyers Defender and Diamond as the warships received a warm welcome from families after a landmark deployment.

The two ships sailed into Portsmouth Naval Base 60 minutes apart ¨ñ and a few hours ahead of the nationís flagship, aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, which they accompanied for most of the past seven months.

The duo left the city in May, part of a nine-ship force ñ seven of them British ñ with the flagship at the centre on its maiden deployment to the Pacific Rim and back.

Both Type 45 warships formed part of the defensive ring of ships formed around the carrier, fulfilling their principal role, watching out for aerial threats.

But there were also opportunities at times to break away from the core task group and operate independently or with allies, such as Defenderís extremely high-profile patrol of the Black Sea in June.
