Photo Shows: Stewart Wood (left and young Home guard aged seventeen and a half, of chester and Private Derrick Baynham of Walton on Thames ages 18 leaving Buckingham Palace after a recent investiture.
The youths were both awarded the George Medal for their gallant work when they rescued the crew of an aircraft which had been forced down in the sea off the coast of Anglesea.
They also have been awarded the Silver Medal of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

"Royal Blue" The King ' s racing pigeon and first carrier of the war carried a message from a force landed plane on the Continent has been invested with the animals ' VC - The Dickin Medal.
In October 1940 this bird was released in Holland approximately 120 miles from base at 07.20 hours and arrived at Sandringham at 11.50 hours the same day with information regarding the situation of the crew.

The Duke of York Gloucester presented the Stanhope Gold Medal , awarded by the Royal Humane Society for the bravest deed of the year, to Thomas Matson Roberts of Dollgelley , Merionethshire , North Wales, at York house, St James Palace, London, today.
Roberts, a part-time National Fire service company officer, rescued a soldier who had attempted to climb Cader Idris , a 1200 foot mountain and become stranded at the seven hundred-foot level.
Thomas Matson Roberts, the ' bravest man of the year ' , with his wife, after the presentation of the medal which he is wearing at York house St James's Palace, London, today.

INDIA PRESENTS MEDALS TO ROYAL MILITARY ACADEMY
A few days before his country assumes ridden pub the current status, Mr. Krishna Menon , India's High Commissioner in London, went to the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, Surrey, to present a collection of India medals dating from 1784 to 1945.
He inspected a ceremonial parade of cadets.

She had Won the 3rd heat of the 110 yards women's freestyle in 69.4 seconds-which was an Empire games record.
Applying the towel is robe attendant Kathleen Gray, a former New Zealand 440 yards champion and holder for 10 years of the New Zealand 100 yards record of 63 3/5 seconds.

POLICE SERGEANT ' DETECTS ' HIS DAUGHTER'S RESCUER
Smart police work led Sergeant F. Cooper of the Flying Squad to the man - another police sergeant - who rescued his daughter , 11-year-old Dianne Cooper , from the Sea at a Kent seaside resort . The rescuer - sergeant J.A. Robson of the G.P.O. Investigation Department Metropolitan Police , walked away without disclosing his name . But sergeant Cooper tracked him down and at Cannon Row, Whitehall , Police Station Sergeant Robson recieved the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal and Scroll .
To rescue Dianne , sergeant Robson - swam in rough seas to reach the girl 250 yards from shore . He has also been commended for bravery in the blitz , for stopping runaway horses and tackling armed thieves .
