NAIROBI'S NEW MACE INCORPORATES COAT OF ARMS
    21 February 1950

A new mace of silver gilt has been made for Nairobi, soon to attain city status, by Carrington and Company, Regent street, London, jewellers.
The mace weighs 120 ounces and incorporates two Kenyan products, an ivory ball at the top and ebony at the base. The head is decorated with four enamel badges, one depicts the new coat of arms of Nairobi, the first to be presented to a colonial city; a second incorporates the Kenya colony lion rampant; a third has the rose and thistle surmounted by the Royal Cypher. The Royal Charter conferring city status on Nairobi will be presented by the Duke of Gloucester on behalf of the King when, with the Duchess, he visits Kenya next month.

Picture Shows Nairobi's coat of arms on the head of the mace. Picture taken today (Tuesday) at the premises of Carrington and Company.
