The Doughnut Pool Table took eight weeks to hand-build from scratch

Doh!
If Homer Simpson ever designed a pool table it would look like this - a huge pink donut.
However, the bizarre billiards on offer here is actually a serious piece by furniture artist Cléon Daniel.
The 27-year-old from Dorset says the Doughnut Pool Table is based on a sweat treat "symbolic of temptation in today's world, and mass produced in endless variety to feed a tempted public. They are everywhere, for everyone, good for you, bad for you, and fun."
Cleon says the idea follows on from his previous Banana Pool Table, and came as a result of people suggesting other fruits.

FEATURE - Olympiaturm wird zu Riesenrutsche umgebaut
Work has started to install the world’s longest and tallest slide around the Orbit tower in the Olympic park. A team of specialist abseilers lifted the first pieces into place on Friday. Initial attempts on Thursday were abandoned because of bad weather.
The Slide, billed as "London’s most spectacular and thrilling new attraction", is due to open in early summer and tickets will go on sale in the next few weeks. The Slide will wrap around the Orbit 12 times and be 178 metres long, allowing users to reach speeds of about 15mph on the 40-second descent.

CHINA-NANCHANG-HONGDU-AVIATION (CN)
(110505) -- NANCHANG, May 5, 2011 (Xinhua) -- The aluminum-lithium alloy fore part of the airframe of C919 jumbo jet is seen in Hongdu Aviation Industry Group in Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi province, April 26, 2011.
On Aug. 1, 1927, Communist-led armed forces held an uprising in Nanchang City, which marks the birth of the armed forces of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and has been recorded as a great event in China's revolutionary history.
Nanchang, one of the "red cradles" of CPC, is also an industrial base in east China and has made contribution to China's development and modernization, especially the aviation industry.
Hongdu Aviation Industry Group, a division of the China Aviation Industry Corp (AVIC), is a main base for research and manufacturing of trainers, UAV, general airplanes and missiles, and also a main base for export of aviation products. Founded in 1951, Hongdu made the first plane of People's Republic of China in July 1954. Up to now, Hongdu has developed and manufactured over 5,000 aircrafts, more than 500 of which were exported.
K8 trainer and L15 trainer, developed and manufactured by Hongdu, are among the outstanding trainer planes in China's aviation. K8 trainer is designed in compliance with the international criteria and developed in a form of international cooperation, is primarily used for pilot's basic training and advanced training. L15, a new generation two-engine supersonic advanced trainer with typical characteristics of third generation fighters, can be used for advanced training and strategic pilot drills.
Hondu also undertakes the construction of the fore part of the airframe of C919 jumbo jet, China's self-developed jumbo jet. C919, is scheduled to take off in 2014 after being rolled off the assemble line between the end of 2013 and the first half of 2014.

Brazil Oscar Niemeyer Architecture
The Museum of Modern Art designed by the Brazilian architect, Oscar Niemeyer in Niteroi, Brazil on Thursday, February 1, 2007. The city of Niteroi, across the Guanabara bay from Rio, is building Niemeyer's most extensive project since Brazil's futuristic capital, Brasilia, which he and friend Lucio Costa built in the late 1950s. Ten buildings, including a Catholic cathedral and Baptist church, a theater and the Niemeyer Foundation building, will form part of the "Caminho Niemeyer" (Niemeyer Way) in Niteroi. Niemeyer's Contemporary Art Museum opened there in 1996, one of hundreds of his buildings scattered around the world, from New York to Paris and Algiers. Niemeyer was one of the creators of the United Nations Secretariat building in New York. Among his latest works is the eye-shaped New Museum in Curitiba in southern Brazil. One of his most popular buildings, the Museum of Contemporary Art in the city of Niteroi, across Guanabara Bay from Rio, is a giant, white disc seemingly floating above ocean waters, which was completed in 1996. The Popular Theatre Oscar Niemeyer opened in Niteroi on April 5, 2007. The event marked the beginning of the commemorations for the architect's 100th birthday to be celebrated on December 15 with the delivery of the Museum and the Niemeyer Oscar Foundation.

Rodrigo Basilicati designs modern skyscraper
August 6, 2012 - Venice, Italy: Designs by architect Rodrigo Basilicati, the nephew and creative heir of Italian-born French fashion designer Pierre Cardin, sit in his studio. Basilicati is collaborating with his uncle to design and build a modern skyscraper, named the Palais Lumiere, in Porto Marghera, near Venice. The proposed building is 244-meters, 60 stories and will cost nearly $2 billion. Cardin and Basilicati have high hopes for their design, and 90-year-old Cardin hopes to begin construction in September.
