During the Vietnam War, the U.S. military stored more than four million of gallons of herbicides, including Agent Orange, at the military base that is now a domestic and military airbase. More than 30 years later there are still high levels of toxins in the soil, toxins that have seeped into a near by lake and have moved through the food chain into human blood and breast milk.

Agricultural Farmers
Jul 14, 2007 - Zalk, Netherlands - A farmer is a person, engaged in agriculture, who raises living organisms for food or raw materials, generally including livestock husbandry and growing crops such as produce and grain. A farmer might own the farmed land or might work as a labourer on land owned by others; but in advanced economies, a farmer is usually a farm owner, while employees of the farm are farm workers, farmhands.More distinct terms are commonly used to denote farmers who raise specific domesticated animals. For example, those who raise grazing livestock such as cattle, sheep, goats, and horses, are known as ranchers (U.S.), graziers (Australia & U.K.), or simply stockmen. Sheep, goat, and cattle farmers might be also be referred to respectively as shepherds, goatherds, and cowherds. The term dairy farmer is applied to those engaged primarily in milk production, whether from cattle, goats, sheep, or other milk producing animals. A poultry farmer is one who concentrates on raising chickens, turkeys, ducks or geese, for either meat, egg, or feather production, or commonly, all three. A person who raises a variety of vegetables for market may be called a truck farmer or market gardener. Dirt farmer is an American colloquial term for a practical farmer, or one who farms his own land (FOTO: DUKAS/ZUMA)

U.S.-NEW YORK STATE-E-WASTE RECYCLING LAW-TAKE EFFECT
(110404) -- NEW YORK, April 4, 2011 (Xinhua) -- Working staff clear up the E-wastes sent by residents in New York, the United States, April 3, 2011.
A state law took effect on April 1 requiring electronic manufacturers to make it free and convenient for New York residents to recycle their old or broken computers, television sets and gadgets. The new law mandates that manufacturers pay for the collection, handling and recycling of electronic products to keep materials that may contain toxic metals like lead and mercury from going into the trash, and later into incinerators and landfills. Part of the goal is to make it simpler for consumers to prepare for 2015, when it will be illegal to throw electronics into the regular trash. (Xinhua/Wu Kaixiang) (lyx)
