ICE agents monitor immigration hearings in New York
August 7, 2025 – New York, New York, United States: Security personnel at 26 Federal Plaza check appointment papers, turning away some individuals while allowing others to enter the building housing the U.S. Immigration Courts and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) offices. ICE made at least 12 arrests on or near courthouse grounds since January. Arrests by ICE during President Trump's second term topped 100,000 this week, as federal agents intensified efforts to detain unauthorized immigrants in courthouses, worksites and communities across the U.S. As o the first week oif June 2025, ICE recorded more than 2,000 arrests each day, a dramatic increase from the daily average of 660 arrests reported by the agency during Mr. Trump's first 100 days in office. ICE has resorted to more aggressive — and controversial — tactics that have triggered outrage and even confrontations in some communities. Those efforts include arrests of migrants and asylum-seekers showing up to court hearings or check-in appointments that the government instructed them to attend. Immigration lawyers have strongly denounced those arrests, saying they deter migrants from complying with the legal process. Immigration roundups at some worksites have also been reported recently. 40th Annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering
February 1, 2025 - Elko, Nevada, United States: A young volunteer named Serafina mans the entrance to the G Three Bar Theater at the Western Folklife Center on Saturday night. Scenes from the 40th Annual National Cowboy Poetry Gathering. The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering (formerly: Elko Cowboy Poetry Gathering), is an annual gathering celebrating cowboy poetry produced by the Western Folklife Center, that takes place in Elko, Nevada. Organized by a team of folklorists and local cowboy poets including Hal Cannon and Waddie Mitchell, the Gathering started in 1985 as a place where Western ranchers and cowboys could gather to share poems about their lives working cattle. From the beginning, it was clear these men and women had found their tribe, an artistic community that few knew existed. Three decades later, the tribe is now a nation of Western poets, musicians, artisans and storytellers, telling stories of hard work, heartbreak, hilarity, and what it means to make your way in the rangeland West. The "Elko Gathering" was renamed the "National Cowboy Poetry Gathering" thanks to an act of Congress in 1980. (Jessica Brandi Lifland / Polaris) (FOTO:DUKAS/POLARIS)
