Tell-All Book Reveals Swedish King's Racy Past
An unofficial tell-all biography of King Gustaf of Sweden has sent Swedes flocking to bookstores thanks to the racy allegations contained within its pages.
Entitled "Carl XVI Gustaf, the Reluctant Monarch", the book which is the first of its kind to profile the monarch has been compiled by three journalists.
It details the 64-year-old king's youth and accession to the throne at the age of 27, with heavy emphasis placed on the young royal's penchant for partying.
According to the authors it was a case of "girls a la carte for the king gang" and Gustaf is alleged to have enjoyed numerous flings.
One of these dalliances was reportedly with Army of Lovers lead singer Camilla Henemark.
The book claims that she and the King enjoyed a year-long affair at the end of the 1990s.
Queen Silvia, it goes on to add, was aware of the affair but was unable to to to anything about it because Gustaf "had fallen in love like a teenager".
Henemark has neither denied nor confirmed the allegations, saying she had been advised to not give any comments.
Other allegations in the book are that the King regularly enjoyed sex parties and strip clubs.
During these activities he was reportedly protected by the Swedish secret service, who were said to have helped any potentially embarrassing materials, such as photos, to disappear.
At the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta Gustaf is said to have spent $10,000 (GBP 7,000) in one particular nightclub, including two hours in a room alone with one of the strippers.
Commenting on the book King Gustaf said he had not read it but had seen some media headlines concerning the publication, which had "not been very nice"
He said that he had talked to Queen Silvia, to whom he has been married for 34 years, and his family after seeing the headlines.
