World's longest aircraft unveiled at Cardington Airfield, Bedfordshire, Britain - 28 Feb 2014
The world's longest aircraft has been unveiled by lead singer of rock band Iron Maiden Bruce Dickinson.

The rock star, who is also an airline pilot, helped launch the massive 92 metre long helium-filled Airlander at Cardington Airfield in Bedfordshire.

The spectacular flying machine is around 60 foot longer than the biggest airliners, the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747-8.

It is almost 30 foot longer than the massive cargo-carrying Antonov An-225, which until now was the longest aircraft ever built and two-and-a-half times longer than the distance covered by the Wright brothers' first powered flight.

"I want to get in this thing and fly Pole to Pole and we'll fly over the Amazon at 20ft and we'll fly over the world's greatest cities and show the whole world live on the Internet exactly how beautiful this planet is," Bruce told BBC Breakfast.

The Airlander looks like an airship, but isn't because it doesn't float and can actually land via remote control, with no one on board.

The US originally bought the hybrid motor vehicle two years ago, but defence budget cuts meant the developers have now bought it back.

It has been developed by Hybrid Air Vehicles and will eventually be able to carry 50 tonnes, using a third of the fuel of a cargo plane and stay in the air for three weeks at a time.

It is 70 per cent greener than a cargo plane and could potentially be used to deliver humanitarian aid to disaster zones with no runways and offer a new form of slow travel for commercial passengers.

It has been built at Cardington - Britain's biggest hanger - where airships were originally built in the 1920's.

"We have found a way of making a mixture between an airship, which has helium for a lift, with the aero-dynamic lift o...

Usman Khan, 28, from Stock-on-Trent, Staffordshire, who has been identified by Scotland Yard as the man responsible for yesterday's London Bridge terrorist attack which resulted in a man and a woman being killed before Khan was overpowered by members of the public armed with makeshift weapons and shot dead by police. Anti-terror police have raided a house in the Staffordshire area which was lilnked to Khan. Before the attack Khan had been attending a seminar in FishmongerÕs Hall about prisoner rehabilitation and had threatened to blow up the building before he began his murder spree. Khan had been released from prison in December 2018 after he was one of nine British based terrorists who were jailed on February 9 2012 after they admitted terrorism offences, including four who pleaded guilty to planning to detonate a bomb at the London Stock Exchange. Khan was given an indeterminate sentence and ordered to serve at least 8 years when he admitted attending operational meetings in Roath Park, Cardiff, and in a Newport country park, fundraising for terrorist training, preparing to travel abroad and assisting others to travel abroad. They were arrested in December 2010 and were set to stand trial at Woolwich Crown Court. The four Stock Exchange plotters admitted engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism and the five others pleaded guilty to other terrorism offences. The terrorist plotters were inspired by al-qaeda, particularly by the preachings of the late radical extremist Anwar Al-Awlaki. They planned to send five mail bombs to various targets during the run up to Christmas 2010 and a "Mumbai-style" atrocity. A hand-written target list found at one of their homes had the names and addresses of London Mayor Boris Johnson, two rabbis, the Stock Exchange and the US embassy

The extraordinary Casa de los Cristales, the Glass House, was originally planned as an upmarket hotel in the 1920s, but the building was later used as offices. The massive structure incorporates various references to Arabic architecture. Melilla, Spain.
Ceuta and Melilla - Spain's North African Enclaves
Just an hour by ferry from Algeciras, Spain's gateway to Africa in southern Andalusia, lie two of Spain's most curious and little-known cities: the Mediterranean ports of Ceuta and Melilla. Both stand on the African mainland, each has a mixed population of Iberian and north African heritage, yet both have been Spanish territories for over five hundred years.

Over the last decade or so mainland Spaniards have been rediscovering these two enclaves as weekend getaways or as long day trips from Andalusia. Foreign tourists are still few in number, and it's a wonder that it's taken the Spanish so long to recognise Ceuta and Melilla's tourist potential. In recent years - at least until the financial crisis hit - money, including European Union funds, has been pouring into the enclaves to spruce up the city centres and their historic buildings.

Ceuta, the larger of the two cities, is a military town built around the moated medieval citadel, now one of the town's main historic sights. Boat hire companies run tours beneath the towering defence walls, or visitors can wander the battlements for different views over the city and the nearby Moroccan coast.

The interior of the citadel has recently been refurbished with new landscaping and palm trees: while an art gallery exhibits the works of local and mainland artists. Also in the citadel, one of Ceuta's most popular restaurants, the El Angulo, serves meat and fresh seafood dishes within the Royal Walls.

Perhaps more surprising than the citadel, however, is Ceuta's ear...
